Hi everyone! I don't often post on FY, but I lurk a lot...

My boys have started rolling this week! YAY boys! BUT, today when I put them down for afternoon nap #1, they were more interested in rolling than in going to sleep (I always put them down awake and the put themselves to sleep). They'd roll from backs to tummies and then not be able to get themselves back to their backs...resulting in frustration and tears. Then I'd go "rescue" them. Eventually, John wore himself out and wound up sleeping on his tummy/side.

So, how do I put them down for naptime and get them to stay on their backs to fall asleep!? I'm terrified of them suffocating!

    THANKS!

You could try putting them in the sleep positioners, that's what I do with my girls. I think I got them at BRU for about $12 each.

mine did that for a while in the crib, too, and finally i just had to leave them on their tummies (they were able to pick up their heads with ease by then), and eventually they either remember how to roll back, or they just stay that way. mine like to sleep on their tummies now.

:a_smil09: Yay for rolling! I would say it's fine for them to fall asleep on their sides, like John did. Sometimes, when they become mobile, they'll move no matter what.

    So cute!! Yay for rolling!!

Maia sleeps on her side like that and has occasionally slept on her belly. Sofie rolls all over the place, she actually has not been napping because she is too busy rolling around these days!! <_<

You could just do some more head control practice with tummy time and maybe that would put your mind at ease about them sleeping on their bellies if they choose to. Or you could practice rolling belly to back, I still do this with Maia because sometimes she gets so frustrated and forgets how to roll back (or she could be lazy).

    Good luck!

becky, that picture is way too cute...I love the shark sheets!!

mine arent really 'rollers' yet, but sydney is a 'side sleeper' now. Thats as far as she can get. It looks super awkward though, she sleeps on her side with her neck cranked all the way back & has to have this little soft bunny touching her eye/forehead? weirdo!!

Good luck w/ the rollers & they will figure it out soon enough how to roll back onto their backs!

We use a homemade sleep positioner - one of my biggest towels folded in half longways and then rolled towards the middle from each end. Rolled sides go down, baby goes on top in the middle (although there is nothing around their heads - towel only goes as high as their armpits). I tighten rolls around the baby after I put them in to make sure they are snug. They unroll/loosen up a little as the babies wiggle around, but my kiddos have yet to figure out how to get over the hump and kinda like a swaddler they seem to like the snugness.

    Becky-John is too cute sleeping!
Sophia has this same problem and has just figured out at bed/naptime that if she does not like being on the belly to go on her side. I just check on them both, once they are asleep they are usually out cold, so if they are in a position that looks uncomfortable-I just move them.

Too cute and yeah for rollers! After my girls could roll they'd always roll onto their tummy at nap and bedtime. After a week of rolling them back just to have them roll right over again, DH and I gave up. To this day, they sleep on their bellies.

 Yay for rollers! Once they could roll, I let them sleep on their tummies, or however they ended up!
