I know there's really nothing to "do" about it, he will just have to outgrow this phase as he gets more verbal. Caleb has developed an ear-piercing scream. He screams when he's happy, upset, wants attention, for no real reason. It's a little embarrassing when he does it in public, and I often have a giant headache at the end of the day from it. Any tips for curbing the screaming? I don't quite remember the girls doing this, or maybe I blocked it out of my mind.

Earplugs? Sorry, I don't have any advice. I remember my ds being a screamer but I don't recall what I did to curb that lovely sound. I hope it's a quick phase.

Sullivan and Finley both did this - it was like they were in competition with each other for who could screech the loudest! I tried to ignore it as much as possible b/c I found that the more attention I paid to them doing it, the more they did it. But sheesh, it is really hard to ignore sometimes!

Hope Caleb outgrows it :) soon!!

If you get the sure please let me know because Mark needs help. Actually it helps that he has a really, really deep baby voice, so he's converted from a screecher to a thundering yeller. We tell him stop and try to distract him, but it's an exercise in futility.

Luke is a screamer too. I have found that ignoring has reduced it but it does not go away. That scream drives me and DH  I wish I had an answer for you

Thanks ladies! I do try to ignore it, but it's hard! And people shoot you that look out in public if you aren't actively trying to shush your baby. Let's hope it's a short phase.

Same thing here. One will do it and then the other will join in, along with my 3 yr old. Well they all tried doing it in church last weekend. <_<

I was just coming on here to post the exact same thing - I figured ignoring is the best answer but sometimes it is hard!

Jake can be that way as well...I think you will find as Caleb gains more ways to communicate, he will calm down.

Maybe try sign language? I wish I had done more of that.

Kalia will sometimes go through phases where she screams and screams and then she stops for a few weeks and then she remembers 'Oh yeah! I can scream' and does it all over again. So far it's been a few weeks since she has done it so let's hope she has finally moved out of the phase. I second (or third??) the ear plugs......
