I have a climber, any fun indoor toy recommendations?

One of my boys is a very adept climber. Nothing is off limits to this child and so far the only thing in our house that he hasn't climbed is our walls, although I swear he's trying to figure out how to make that possible! :p A friend, who of course is childless, made the comment that maybe we should have something in our house that will stimulate him and give him a creative way to use his energy. We don't have a huge house, and converting a wall into a climbing wall is not an option. Are there any interesting play structures that you know about that would keep my climber interested? We have a little gym thing that he is bored with, probably because he can't go high enough! I agree with my friend that this child needs something that will keep him busy, but I don't know what. It's been very cold here, so playing outside regularly hasn't been an option for the better part of two months.

We have to double safety gate areas that are absolutely off limits because he continued to climb over the one gate!! His brother loves playing with cars, trucks, and tractors; his sister loves playing Mommy to her doll; Andrew loves to climb! Argh!

I sure hope someone can help! BTW, because of this site, I learned about crib tents! Wonderful product! It keeps my boy safe and in his crib all night long. I love it! (btw, in case it matters for suggestions, he is 22 months old)

    Thanks!

We have this climber and it's a HUGE hit. It's labeled 3+ but my climbers have been using it without incident since I bought it for their 2nd birthday. It's not small, though... it's 6' across at the base. I don't know any good climbing toys that are small because the higher you go, the wider the base needs to be.

    Good luck!

Try this! We'll see you in the 2020 Olympics ;)

Does your city have rec department classes? When my boys were that age I signed them up for a toddler gymnastics class where they used these rings (and balance beams, etc.). They loved it! And it was indoors, with other kids, etc. A great outlet for them during the rainy winter months.

    Hmmm, how about Daddy?

J/K...I saw the title of this thread while watching my two climb all over Daddy's back. We had a Kangaroo climber and loved it. And I also think Ellen's recommendation is great. My kids loved their little baby/toddler gymnastics class.

We have a Kangaroo Climber and my girls climb on it everyday, it's been the best investment! Step2 is also offering free shipping over Christmas! I ordered a play kitchen from them last Friday, they shipped it out Monday and I got it Wednesday.

Since space is limited, how about removing the couch and chair cushions and letting him climb on those? We remove ours all the time and make forts, etc. They're soft and not too high so they're pretty safe. Another suggestion would be to buy some soft bolsters. We had some on our daybed and now they are a permanent fixture in their play room. They climb all over them and we stand them up vertically and they love pushing them down over and over again.

we dont really have room for any of those things, so i made our furniture safe. We bolted the bookshelf to the wall so it wont tip, we turned their shelf on its side, so its long and short, rather than tall and narrow. They climb on the shelf, pull themselves into their cots, hang onto the window frame , walk along the window ledge (ground floor ofcourse) and back into the other one's cot.

they have found an obstacle course for themselves. In fact our entire house is an obstacle course for them.

its pretty funny seeing other mums watch what they can do (in climbing) and almost faint. Im so proud of my climbing boys. They do however have alot more bruises than anyone else.

I too, am very proud of my climber! :) The things he attempts, or conquers, when climbing never fail to make me smile. However, it is a challenge to keep him happy and off my kitchen counters, because there is only so much baby proofing I'm willing to do with my upper cupboards! He really does climb everything . . . the other day we went out to eat at a buffet place. He hung off the outside rail where you place your trays; walked his feet up the wall and across the rails and was ready to do a flip. All in the time it took me to sign my cc receipt!

I'd like to enroll him in a gym class, and he has gone to a couple already. He loves it when he's there, but it is only one hour each week. Hardly enough to keep my little man - in - perpetual - motion - content! :)

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. The play set we have is very similar to the Kangaroo climber. He is bored with this and I'm assuming because it isn't a challenge for him. We are going to purchase the gym set that debid suggested. That looked perfect and we can use it for other fun play things. I'm excited to get it and see if it does keep him entertained . . . I do feel that all three of my kids will have fun with it, so even if it doesn't keep him from climbing our bookshelves and other shelves (which are bolted to the walls) it'll be money well spent!

Thanks again for all of your ideas! I love this site and have gotten so much from all the awesome moms that post here!

We found this out by accident when we had some company spend the night. We had one of those air mattresses out & just threw it up against the couch to get out of the way quickly.....and the kids started climbing up & sliding down and just had a BLAST. Every once in awhile we bring it out again & let them play. The bottom of it has like these little dips, which make perfect footholds. Then when we're done it gets put back in a bag & out in the garage.
