Soren is starting to bite. He bites me, his dad, his brother...and it hurts. I don't want to give him too much attention for doing this, but at the same time I don't want to wait and see if he stops in a few months. Does anyone have any ideas about how to handle this? He seems to think it's very funny, and I suppose when you're 12 months old, it probably is. We're non-spankers, so ideas along those lines aren't for us. Should I ignore it? Should I hope that strong "NO"s eventually work?

    Please help!

I have a biter, too. She started when she was about a year. It got pretty bad there for awhile. She bit Gabriel, the babysitter's grandchildren, and another child at the babysitter's house! It was awful. We would tell her no and remove her from the situation. Eventually it stopped for awhile. Unfortunately, in the last couple of days it has started up again. I don't know what the answer is.

I would go with a strong NO and then ignore. By ignore I mean if you/his dad are holding him or he is on your lap then put him straight down on the floor. If you were playing on the floor with him then get up and walk away. If he bites his brother tell him "No" and then give lots of attention/comfort to his brother.

What kinds of situations does he bite in? Is it possible that he is teething? You could try saying "No. Don't bite people. Here; you can bite this" and then give him a teething ring/wet facecloth etc.

We are having a similar problem and not sure how to handle it either.

Is he biting b/c he is mad?

Cooper bites but I honestly don't think he knows what he is doing. His brother loves to blow rasperries on our legs, stomachs and even Coopers and we laugh at it. Well I think Cooper is trying to do the same thing but is biting. He will be making Eli laugh by wrestling with him and then bite him. He left a huge bite mark the other night. I don't want to discourage them playing but how do we make he know not to bite?

Same situation here. Lilly bites Anderson, but I'm not sure she means to hurt him. She does it during play and sometimes she does it after he has pushed her to the floor (which I think he does because he doesn't know his space yet), in those cases maybe Lilly is trying to defend herself. I guess I don't want to believe that my kids would intentionally want to hurt each other, but how could they? They have been best friends up to now !!!! I wish I knew what they were thinking, so I know how to stop it.

We're having the same probelm. I asked the ped. what to do and he suggested a firm no and then redirection. Like the other posts mentioned, give them a teether toy to bite and remove them from the area. Landon will bite Brenden if he has a toy that he wants. He knows if he bites brenden, brenden will drop the toy and then cry and landon will get the toy. Good Luck on this and i cant ait to see what others answer with....HTH

    Thanks!

He doesn't seem to be mad, he just crawls up and bites. I give him something to chew on, and it redirects him about half of the time. He doesn't seem to be doing it for attention or anything--he just does it. I'll keep up the redirection and I'm sure he'll get past it eventually. He probably is teething...are they ever not teething? :p

Carter has bitten Spencer a couple of times, mostly when Spencer has taken a toy away from Carter or pushed him. Carter hasn't bitten anyone else *yet*. I just tell him NO and give lots of attention to Spencer. It's so hard to know what to do.
