I'm sitting here listening to screaming in stereo as I make another attempt to put my boys down for a nap. I'm determined to get us on some sort of schedule, but they're not thrilled, to say the least. Poor boys are having to get used to helmets today too. At least they don't have to wear them while napping yet. Always those pauses where they're catching their breath and you hold your breath until they start crying again.

I posted to facebook the other day that Sleep training twins is like juggling flaming porcupines while running a marathon. :tomato:

I feel for you! Some day soon we'll be going through that hell too. I would LOVE for my boys to get on some kind of a schedule, but given that they are currently only taking 3.5 to 4 oz per feeding, and eating every 2 - 3 hours (even at night, ugg), I just don't think they/we are ready to attempt that. I want to wait until they go longer between feedings before attempting nap schedules and CIO at night. Also, my mom watches our boys during the day and she HATES to hear them cry at all. I keep telling her sometimes you just gotta let them cry some, but she won't do it. So I don't know how we're going to get her on board a rigid nap schedule if she rushes to them every time they cry :-/

    hilarious!

sleep training is a struggle, i hope they figure it out for you quickly! but just know, that as soon as they do figure it out and you get comfy on a schedule, they will change it up on you, guaranteed![IMG]

I hate sleep training too! And we've had a lot of struggles with naps. Mine cried a lot for nap training in the beginning. Now they don't cry at all if I put them down at the right time based on their cues. I always feel bad when I seem to put them down at the wrong time and there is a lot of crying. But that doesn't happen too often anymore. Our biggest problem now is short naps. I hope they catch on quickly!

I am trying to get mine to nap in the crib as well. They will be 4 months next week. How long do you let them cry for? Mine are not sleeping through the night yet, should I hold off on nap training until they are sleeping through the night?

    This is hard stuff.....

 It is so hard to hear them cry! Hopefully it's long over by now and they'll nap better for you tomorrow.

 This is probably the best description for it! Naps were the hardest for us, it was difficult for DH and I to get them on a nap schedule but it did finally take when they were 6 months.

good luck, you'll be glad you did in the end. its so nice to be able to put the babies in to take a nap when they are wide awake... and they put themselves to sleep.

I hear you! I am trying to train my boys to nap in their cot, and it is the most frustrating thing I think I have ever done. We are not doing CIO yet, they are too little for that, but trying to soothe them to sleep in the cot for their nap. Just when you think they have dropped off, their eyes open and you have to start all over again. And then just as I think they are asleep and that I will have some me time - eat lunch, make a phone call, take a nap etc- one of them will start crying. They seem to tag team too - one will sleep for 20 minutes, while the other one is awake, but as soon as twin two drops off, twin one wakes up! I have been in tears a number of times with frustration.
It is so hard to read their cues, especially as it seems wrong that they can be tired after only being up for an hour, and apart from the yawns, they look quite awake. I hope I will get better at that soon, and will be able to get them into bed before they start to get grizzly. I can't wait for the day they go to sleep on their own.

Mine aren't sleeping through the night yet either, though they're 6 months adjusted. I decided to do naps first because they weren't napping on their own and they go down well at night, both at bedtime and when they wake up, are fed, and go back to sleep. I've been using 5 minutes crying, check-n-console, 10 minutes crying, check-n-console, 15 minutes crying, check-n-console, 20 minute crying, get out of crib and rock to sleep. I'm thinking of dropping the c-n-c for Sam, since me coming in there and not picking him up seems to make him more upset. I'm planning, next nap, to do 20 minutes of crying then get him up for the nap. They're only doing 30-45 minute naps at the moment, but I hope that gets longer.

My poor guys are having to learn to sleep in their new helmets too. :sorry:
