Yes, I did it. I snipped poor little sweety's finger with those stupid clippers.

I can not believe I did that.

Luckily, the baby was so tired from a long day, a nice bath and a big bottle and sleep coming on strong. But not for me. It was bleeding so much I cried. I applied pressure but it didn't stop bleeding. After 30 mins, i cleaned the wound, put on two bandaids and two baby socks to keep the boo boo from getting into the baby's mouth. Tomorrow we have our 4 mondth check up. I am glad to be going to the pedi. but nervous about how dumb I will look. Forget about me though,

how long will it take to heal? Will it always hurt? poor little dear.

I have done that too. Once to each of them  I read about using rounded scissors in a baby book that I have. I used them to trim their nails, and I haven't nipped them since. It is so much easier too. You may want to give them a try. My DH had a pair all ready, I am not sure where you get them.

Yes, that's what I'm so afraid of doing! I try to get them when they are in calm moods, like after showers (which is a bonus because nails are soft) and I sit one in my lap facing away from me, so he's kind of just looking around, not really paying attention to me. If he starts wiggling, I'll just finish later and start on his brother! Hope your boo boo's boo boo has a speedy recovery!!

Oh honey, please don't beat yourself up about this. I did this also. I was clipping Ben's fingernails and I was on my last finger (his thumb) I had already done his toe nails and had already done Jake's toes and fingers (that's 49 successfull nails) it happened on my very last nail. They were 4 months old at the time. He squirmed just as I clipped the nail and got a little piece of skin instead. It started bleeding immediately! He didn't even cry, but BOY DID I!!! It would not stop bleeding. Thank goodness my Mom is a nurse so she came over and did EXACTLY what you did - 2 bandaids and a baby sock over his hand. He looked like he had a cast on. I really don't think it hurt him at all. He was so calm the whole time. By the next morning, you couldn't even tell that anything had happened, no mark or scab at all. I felt so horrible, but have come to realize that things like this happen and I can't beat myself up about it anymore, I'm a Mom and I'm not perfect  .

I hope it heals very quickly. You're a GREAT MOM, accidents happen, keep your chin up!!! B)

Oh I have done that indeed to my poor DD. I was trying my hardest to clip em and not get skin and on the last thumb I got her finger. Bled a little and though oh not too bad but couple days later looked infected and off to clinic to check. Luckily he said it was not infection??? Although when he pierced the skin it had some goo come out and seemed to heal very nicely with some polysporin after that. It is definately not something I enjoy doing now I am always soooooo afraid I will do it again but have not. TG

it's inevitable with those squirmy little buggars & teeny tiny nails! i did that to ds when he was about 3 months & he screamed for like 2 seconds & bled (what i thought at the time) gallons, but the next day, you couldn't even tell. i was scared about doing it again for awhile, but as they grow & the nails get bigger, it does get easier- plus you'll have more practice. i freaked & felt guilty, but that's a first time mom for ya! don't feel bad- it's happened to us all!

I did it, too! I felt HORRIBLE! He cried forever, it seemed!

But...he survived and so did I! I think the owie healed pretty quickly, too.

I'm dreading the day that might happen. My boys are 3 1/2 months old and I think I've clipped their nails a total of 2x each. My DH has clipped them once also. I have never done it while they were awake though, I'm too afraid of them squirming. I've always done it while they were napping in their bouncers.
Hope your little sweetheart's finger heals quickly, and you're not a bad mommy. :)

I've done it too. It just breaks your heart. I sometimes bite their nails myself (ped's suggestion LOL) or file them. They sure do grow fast.
