I hate eating when I'm pregnant.

I think the title says it all. I'm not hungry when I'm pregnant, especially in the beginning.

I eat only out of necessity and because I know it helps with the morning sickness.

    :bad: :bad:

With the boys, I lost 6lbs in the first 3 months, and didn't get back to my starting weight until 5 months. In the end I gained 40 lbs, but I lost it by 2 weeks post pardum, so I think it was mostly water and babies.

I guess I just don't get those images of TV of pregnant women stuffing themselves. I feel opposite of that.

In the first three months of this pregnancy I had a hard time eating, very similar to my twin pregnancy. But I swear now I'd forget I was pregnant if it weren't for my clothes not fitting! I'm really shocked at how much easier this is. I hope it gets easier for you too.

You know my only good month with the boys was month 5.

So you are actually getting a break from the heartburn too? Because I couldn't eat very well from months 6-9 because of heart burn and reflux. I think my poor stomach was so squashed I could only eat tiny little meals.

I totally get those shows. With the twins, I ate every hour and I was starving and of course had heartburn. I was terrified of the night before my c-section because I knew I couldn't eat for five hours before we went to the hospital. After the kids were born, I was so relieved not to be hungry all the time.

This pregnancy has been a lot better. I had a month or two where I was really hungry, but it has tapered off quite a bit. Hopefully that means I won't gain as much weight.

I'm a little jealous there :) I guess the upside is that I won't have as much early weight gain.

I would definitely force myself to eat during the first trimester, but otherwise I normally love to eat in pregnancy. I totally hear you on the heart burn issue. Normally I have it really bad already, but thus far it's been pretty good. Then again this is the first singleton boy pregnancy I've experienced, so I'm attributing the difference to that. So long as I stay away from really acidic things at night like juice or salsa I'm okay. The only frustration related to food that I have during my final weeks of pregnancy is the feeling of always being hungry, of never being able to really eat enough because of being too uncomfortable, just never feeling satisfied but always uncomfortable. I really, really love the feeling of the first meal post-partum, just to have this full, satisfied feeling in my belly and knowing that I won't need to eat again in 20 minutes. And I also love being able to chug water...something I can't do comfortable during most of my pregnancy. (it either makes me want to vomit or makes me horribly uncomfortable because of the squished stomach.)

This is me. It's probably why I gained 50-60lbs with every pregnancy. I loved to eat, especially since when I am pregnant I am not lactose intolerant. Now, I'm having trouble cutting back my portion size. :) And the milk products are out.

How far along are you now Rachel?

The beginning of this pregnancy was the same as with the twins as far as I really didnt lose/gain until I hit around 15 weeks. Then I started gaining and eating (often more than DH!).
The heartburn with the twins started around 18 weeks and not to many weeks afterwards I took prescription heartburn meds (protonix). This pregnancy Ive had hearburn but its been bearable until recently. Im going to talk with the doc on Thursday (33 week) about starting protonix again. I think she'd rather I did that then eat ice cream (the only thing that helps) for breakfast, lunch and dinner

It doesnt help either that the things I want (coffee, tomatoes, spicy mexican food) are definite heartburn contributors without my stomach being pushed up my throat ;)

For the last two weeks the reflux has been much better. It got really bad just before that. But I think the stress of MIL's funeral (southern Mexican furnerals last two weeks) and the food that I had little choice but eat during that time were making a big contribution to the reflux. For example, Soda, which I rarely drink anytime, I had frequently during the two weeks of funeral rights because that's what was being served. Also Cafe de Olla, sweet cinnamony coffee. Not to mention Mole and other rich Mexican dishes.

I have a book about natural preganacy and it recommend slowly chewing raw almonds to relieve reflux. I've been doing that, but can't say if it's the diet, more sleep and less stress, or the almonds. Either way I feel better.

I wish I had hated eating at the first of this pregnancy and maybe I wouldn't have ended up with gestional diabetes. But, I am on a strict diet now. With the twins I was sooooo miserable when I ate that I was eating very little in the end because I couldn't breath.
    Best Wishes :)

Right now I'm at about 7 or 8 weeks. As much as I don't want to eat, this is way better than with the boys I've only thrown up twice. I was throwing up twice a day, or more, with the boys. I think from about 5-15 weeks was the worst for the morning sickness, and between 15 to 20 it got better, and after that the main eating issues revolved around the breathing and the reflux.

I'm seriously going to have to try almonds. I did a pretty good job of controlling reflux with milk, water, and gum.

I'm already looking forward to my first post pardum meal. Is that bad? Even that bland hospital food tasted good.

That happened to me too. I carried really high pretty much the whole time those boys were in my lungs and my stomach. I had almost forgotten about that reason for not liking eating.
