So my girls are 8 months old and I am STILL crying a lot and very, very anxious about everything. I don't sleep well at night. I feel panicky a lot. I went to the doctor yesterday and she gave me a Rx for Zoloft. I told her that I didn't feel right about having to take something every day. She said that she thought I needed it esp. since i am taking care of them by myself in a new place (we moved out of state 2 months after they were born) where I don't have any family or help....i know, i know, i know,,, BUT it's still a hard concept for me to grasp that i need to take Zoloft.....

Does anybody have any experience with this? When does the Zoloft kick in? How long were you on it or are you still on it? What side effects did you experience? I know this is vain, but did it make you gain weight?

I don't have experience with zoloft but just wanted to give you a [IMG]. I hope the medication helps you. Give it a chance to work.

[IMG] from me to you! I have 8 month twins and a 2 year old I've been on 3 different meds since they were about 2 months! It normally take 2 to 3 weeks for the meds to kick in. If your husband is very helpful and the twins are sleeping through the night think about asking for a sleeping pill! I had the same problem i was so tired but when i laid down to go to bed i couldn't sleep at all, and if i dont get sleep my ppd is sooo much worse! And yes more than likely it will make you gain weight! I only gain 30lbs with the boys and lost all but 10 right away and now i've gained 15 more! It sucks but i would rather be stressed out about weight than stressed out about babies! I've decided that I'm just not going to worry about it until i get over the PPD!

[IMG] Don't beat yourself up. A lot of women suffer from PPD and its okay to get help. I have been taking Zoloft since the twins were six weeks old. I personally haven't gained weight taking it but I've been eating healthier and exercising. I think it took about two weeks to really start working. I haven't had any side effects taking it. I didn't realize how bad my PPD was until the Zoloft started working. My dh works a lot of hours and is out of town at LEAST a week every month sometimes more. So I am left alone a lot taking care of the kids. I am really glad I started taking it because it has really helped me.

I have basically been taking Zoloft since my twins were born. I took Prozac while I was pregnant with them.

It probably took about two weeks for it to kick in..then, I needed more as the first dose didn't work. My mom, kids, and husband say they see a huge difference in me. I feel my more competent as a mom and have more patience. My doc said it shouldn't make me gain weight that it would help me maintain or lose weight as my serotonin level should level off.

Hang in there and don't beat yourself up about taking it. If you had thyroid problems or blood pressure issues you would take meds. Just think of it that way.

I regret not being treated for PPD earlier. I didn't go until they were 13 mos old... I missed a lot of time with them being sad, if Zoloft will help you enjoy them, then the meds are wirth it! I have terrible guilt from missing out

It sounds like you need it, and taking it won't do anything except help you. I had many of those same feelings, and did nothing about it until the boys were over a year old... I was prescribed Paxil, and it DOES help. You won't get as emotional, and you won't get panicky... before I was on the medication, I had heart palpitations, was constantly worrying... then when I got the paxil, all that stopped.

Paxil treats the same things as Zoloft... It took about 2 weeks to fully kick in, they gave me a light dose of xanax while the paxil was getting in my system. (Xanax helps a lot!) I was on it up until I found out I was pregnant. Some women need it the rest of their lives, and some don't... just depends on your chemical imbalance. I didn't gain weight with it.

    HTH!

I was very reluctant to go on meds for PPD as I never took them after the birth of my other children. I was able to get out a lot more with the other children, but with the twins it seems impossible to go anywhere and people tend not to come over as much. Right now I am on 100mg of Zoloft, and it has been working great. Some days I feel a little weepy, but i think that is just me. It has really helped with my anxiety, which another bonus about taking Zoloft. I think it took about 3-4 weeks for it to kick in, its kind of a blur right now. I hope you find something that will work for you.

Going on Zoloft after my singleton was the BEST thing I ever did... you will only wish you had done it sooner!! It is gradual and takes a few weeks to "kick in" so to speak.... the great thing... you can slowly come off of them whenever you feel you are done needing it!! I quit when my daughter was 1 year. My doc is now monitoring me before the birth of the twins and it was even suggested that I start before they were born... but we have opted to wait because I am dealing with no anxiety right now. But I will start (if I need to) right after the "baby blues" stage if it doesnt resolve on its own. And not to sound like Tom Cruise but diet and excersize does help... get out and walk for like an HOUR (easier said than done i know). Never never never feel guilty about this!! We are all here for support and you are not alone!!
