My girls have decided that they want to pick out their own clothes, so the control freak in me has had to let go. For the last couple of months I've come home from work to find a giant pile of clothes in the middle of their room and their dresser practically empty. When this started i would carefully refold all their clothes and out them back in their drawers. When I got sick of that, I would make the girls do it, but of course they would either throw everything in the laundry basket or just shove it all in the drawers.

Over the weekend I decided to stop the madness. As much as I love drawers with nicely folded clothes it's just not worth it. I got 3 bins and labeled them with pictures of a shirt, pants, and dress. I had them help me sort all their clothes into the bins and put the bins in their closet. In their drawers are just pjs (one side shirts, one side pants with a drawer divider in between), one drawer for sweaters/sweatshirts, and one drawer for undies/socks. I hope this will prevent the big pile of clothes in the middle of the room.

On the up side, they come up with some crazy outfits that make me laugh!

    I love the bin idea.

I just purged the drawers in their room again, to get rid of all of the winter 4T stuff that won't fit come winter. We've only been in this place for two and a half months and this is the second time I've gone through their drawers.

I love the bin idea! My three year old son does the same thing, and he changes his clothes about 3 times a day! I am not going to like most of the clothes just stay on the floor or end up piled on the dresser. It drives me nuts, but refolding all the clothes everyday is something I just don't have time for. I think I am going to try the bin thing. Excellent idea!

Leighann, that is a GREAT idea. :good:

:bow2: to you from another  person who would have to fold and put them back in the drawers.

Oh my goodness we have the same issue!!! These 2 are awful about changing clothes a million times a day and all of the rejects get thrown on the floor - I also love the bin idea!!

I have labeled Ava as the next Lady GaGa, her outfits are outrageous!!! And to top it off, Someone gave her a Rapunzel hairpiece that she insists on wearing EVERYWHERE - I have learned to just tell people that she dresses herself and let her wear what she wants as hard as it is LOL!!!

Great idea!!! We're going through this as well and my ds is the worst, my dd could care less what she wears (for now!).

Great idea - have to say I was one of those people that used to be appalled :shok: (kinda kidding) when I saw children dressed in some crazy outfits out in public. But now I love seeing what my boys will come up with and just think it is funny and adorable.

Great idea! Wow, you were able to dress them until 4 - that is impressive right there! My dd has known what she wants to wear (and as long as its weather appropriate) I have been letting her pick out her clothes since she was 18months old as it wasn't worth the fight!! It was never worth the hassle. Honestly though it doens't matter to me if the clothes are folded (it used to, but now its too much work, as long as they are in a drawer I am happy). Quick tip - just make sure there are no clothes within her reach that she can't wear - that way you avoid tantrums and fighting!

I emptied their dressers when we got rid of cribs. No way. They'd just dump the bins on the floor too. Their clothes are in our room in those plastic drawers storage units, and yes they pick their clothes also (DD always, DS sometimes), which makes it... interesting. I like the idea of putting pictures on them though!

    Leighann, that's a great idea!
Both of my kids like to pick out their own clothes but I have a rule that the clothes have to stay in the drawer and they are pretty good about following the rule right now. But I might be using your bin idea in the future!
