Okay, just a brief word first. I have wanted a c/s since I found out I was pg with twins. It was just my own personal choice.

I saw quite a few dr.'s in my OB practice and one of them always tried to talk me out of it and say that I had to make that decision in the beginning. Well thanks to IVF I found out it was twins at 6wks and I didn't see her until 12 weeks on account that I switched dr.'s.

At EVERY appt I brought up the point of wanting the c/s and apparently no one must have wrote it down.

They are both head down and they are really saying it is best to have a vaginal birth. Again, my personal decision was the c/s and I was clear about that.

Of course if my water broke or my labor progressed quickly and I got to the hospital and was 8cm dilated, I would have to push and realize at that time it would be out of my hands but still, if I had the option, I would go with the c/s.

I know all the risks and pros and cons of each type of delivery and I explained that last week at my appt and the other dr. agreed to go ahead and schedule me for the c/s at 37 weeks.

So then I went into early labor at that same appt and she thought it was going to be that day so she never got around to scheduling it for me.

Well then I didn't have them and made it through the weekend and went in today for a recheck on my BP and talked to this other dr. about scheduling the c/s for next week. She of course tried to talk me out of it and said she can put me down for next Monday the first but she wishes I would have decided this early on in pgy. I said I did.

So she said she didn't have the schedule of which dr. would be on staff at the hospital that day and there is a good possibility that the dr would NOT want to do the c/s and induce me.

Either way, if I don't go into labor on my own this week I will have them either by c/s or induce me on October 1st. So that is the good news but it gets me that I can't make my own medical decision of what I think is best for me.

Just frustrating as can be and I realize things can go either way and it could be out of my hands but I think I should have the right to make the decision.

i can understand how you feel. i would really want to know, going into it, what it's going to be. can you call the doc you spoke with last week, find out when s/he will be at the hospital and be scheduled for that day?

the practice of medicine is so different depending on where you are. my OBs are not allowed (by their malpractice) to induce twins. and they aren't allowed to deliver twins vaginally AT ALL for first time mothers, regardless of the babies' positions. for a person who has already had a child, they can only deliver vaginally if both twins are head down.

based on all of that, i don't understand why they won't just do the C on you, since you're requesting it, and clearly it's 'safer' since malpractice carriers are pushing the docs to do them. (i say it's 'safer' tongue-in-cheek, knowing that studies show it is no more or less safe.)

Unfortunately the dr. I saw last week that agreed to do it won't be on until the 8th and they won't let me go that long so I am just waiting until I get rechecked on Friday and they said they will be able to tell me who the dr on staff will be for the 1st. So I am just waiting before I get too upset. Still frustrating though!

Just a thought - when was the last time one of the high risk docs saw you? they are FAR MORE open to csections for twins and their word is gospel -- if one of them says you get a csection, none of the regular obs will mess with that and you WILL have a csection.

    Sorry, i should've thought of that earlier . . .

perhaps what they are being skittish on is not so much the c/s but the fact that you will be just 37 weeks next monday???... I know my docs talked about letting me go at 36 weeks...but when it came down to it they really didn't want to schedule the c/s until closer to 38 weeks. I finally got it scheduled at 37wks 5 days. Incidentally, I would have tried vaginal if my baby A hadn't been such a stinker with her position. It's all about liability...and although more docs get sued for NOT doing c/s than for those who do c/s...the fact of the matter remains that infant and maternal injuries, infections, blood loss are all more likely with a c/s than a routine vaginal delivery... and docs are all about keeping those risk factors down, regardless of the scary anectodotes we hear for one method or another. Docs mostly base their recommendations on just the facts coming from research studies...and occasionlly their own scary anectodotes.. I hope that your birth goes smoothly no matter what winds up happening...and I hope you have two very healthy, happy babies born!!

I completely agree you should be able to make your own decision. I'm really nervous because my baby A is head down and my baby B is transverse but she is alot bigger. I would really like a C but he says no I will go into labour and they will see how baby B turns after A comes out. I don't see why he won't let me choose a C rather than risk having the vaginal and the C. I am unhappy with him but have no alternatives.

I agree with things Susanna said. Personally I am very in favor of vaginal deliveries if the situation is right. Although I understand it's not your decision, I think you should trust your doctors for making the right medical decision for you and your babies since they should be the ones with experience. Since a lot of doctors choose the "easy c/s" route with twins, I personally think it's a good sign that your doctors feel strongly about vaginal deliveries.

Good luck with whatever the outcome will be. Just have faith in your body and your doctors, you'll be fine either way ;).
