I started talking half a unisom tablet each night before bed and taking 50 mg of B6 a day (doctor's recommendation). The unisom helped some, but by 8 weeks I ended up getting a prescription for zofran which was a lifesaver. I also find if I can get enough sleep (haha, almost never happens!) I feel much better and even though I had a hard time eating anything early on, if I could get protein into me that always helped.

My morning sickness is always bad, but this was like nothing I'd experienced. I still have days where it's bad and I'm 16.5 weeks... but it did get much better around the 12-13 week mark.

But, yeah, I felt like dookie for a long time and still kinda do. It is not fun.

My midwives explained to me that there are 3 common causes to morning sickness:

1 - Hormonal. Unfortunately, there's not much to be done about this one but it does usually even out after the 1st trimester.
2 - Blood sugar levels. Eating frequently & ensuring you're getting a lot of protein helps maintain your blood sugar levels. When they're off, it increases nausea. As counter intuitive as it seems, when you start feeling sick, EAT something. Even if it comes back up shortly after, your body will still have absorbed something & it will help. As the pregnancy progresses & your blood volume increases, it also becomes important to make sure you're drinking enough water to help stave off nausea (I started puking again right at the start of my 3rd trimester & realized it was because I'd stopped drinking nearly enough water because it made me have to go to the bathroom every 2 minutes. Then I figured I'd rather be going to the bathroom every 2 minutes to pee than to puke so I started drinking water again ;) ).
3 - Getting enough rest. Being tired/exhausted increases nausea. I found with this pregnancy I'd feel most nauseous right around dinner time. After talking to my midwives, I started taking an afternoon nap & voila, no more evening nausea.

If all else fails, as others have mentioned there are definitely stronger meds you can take to help. Hang in there!

Junky/salty food (pop!), whatever stays down is what I eat in the first trimester. I've heard the B6/unisom works well too. I also sucked on a billion Lifesaver winto-mints this time as well.

I absolutely swear by Gin-Gins, hard candy ginger. http://www.gingerpeople.com/gin-gin-candies.html

I would just pop one in my mouth and the sick feeling would almost instantly go away. In fact, I still use them know if I ever feel a little nauseated or have a bout of motion sickness. They may or may not work for you, but when you feel like crap almost anyting is worth a try in my opinion!

    Hoping you feel better soon.

I hear ya loud and clear. What works for me:

-eat before u get out of bed. I had a protein-rich sandwich but really just wanted the bread. :)
-carb it up. All meals and snacks must contain a carb. Even now it makes a difference.
-balance liquids. Still, if I drink on an empty stomach it comes up and/or gives me heartburn.
-NEVER go to bed hungry. If you've eaten lighter/less that day, have something (snack, shake etc) so you can go to bed full. If not, it can lead to a rough morning the next day.
-don't forget this too shall pass. I seriously did not believe it ever would, but it does get better.

Hope this helps and good luck,

    Amy
