I've been off-line for a while because I spent 14 days travelling to see family. I split the 900 mile trip (one way) into 2 days. The girls were great on the way down. and I have to say thanks to everyone for their suggestions for car entertainment. I did have a DVD player but only used it for a total of 3 hrs for the trip down and probably closer to 6 hrs on the way home. All the variety of toys worked well. I kept the toys in the front passenger seat in a large duffle and kept passing them back. I stopped way more often than I wanted to, but I know the girls needed it.

All I can say is, I survived, but would someone like to donate some frequent flier miles to us for use at Christmas time???

WOW. CONGRATS! I am so so impressed. We've taken our boys on a 16-hr-rt trip before, but that was with DH- I'm not sure I could do it by myself!

That's so cool. You are an awesome mama!!!

:bow2: Wow I give you credit! We traveled from NJ to GA when the girls were little and it was tough with the two of us. Awesome that you were able to do it on your own!

That's awesome! I am proud of myself when I make it down to Philly or to my sister's in Connecticut (2-3 hour drives)!

You are a saint in my eyes - the longest I've ever driven with the girl's is an hour and a half. That will probably be the longest I drive with them until they're about 15 years old. :icon_biggrin:

My DH is traveling a TON right now, but won't always even spend the miles if he can find a good fare so your quote struck me as funny!!!

I am so glad you made it and with little drama!! Good job!!! YOU GO GIRL!!!

Leave it to someone on here to raise the bar for the rest of us now!! ;)

I have been putting off a similiar trip to see my mother -- and we would be traveling as a family. I think it's more about me and some other issues than the actual trip ... but your bravery gives me confidence.

I might PM you for some insider tips.

Great job!! I thought I did good when I took the girls last summer to see my sister have her last baby. That was a 5 hour drive. :)

I'm not super momma, although I appreciate the compliments! Believe me, the trip on the way home was so much harder than the way down to see Grammy & Granddaddy!

My only insider tip is to have everyone you know praying for you. Whatever you do for discipline at home, do it in the car too. Have alot of small toys that they've never played with before. That was easy for us, b/c I don't have alot of toys, so buying a couple of new ones and bringing out a couple of "stored" ones helped make life interesting.

Later when I have a chance, I will post all the wonderful traveling ideas I got from my Family Resource Center. Ms D gave me a whole page full of ideas.

Way to go! I'm glad you made it there and back safely. My SIL did a few international trips with her twins and older daughter (they were stationed in Germany when the twins were 1-2). I don't know how she did it...I'd have been bonkers.

I was considering (however briefly) taking the four of mine south for Spring Break alone (since DH has to work). The twins will be 3 in Sept. and my other two are 7 and almost 5. I had second thoughts and chickened out at the last minute.

If I could get a direct flight I might do it.

But I'm still worried. :p Although I do a lot with them myself - I'm going to wait a bit on that one. LOL.

    You did great!

Wow!!! That is amazing!!! We could definitely use some of those travel tips when you get the chance because we have a few long road trips planned for the summer.

And now that you are home safely, I can say this (I wouldn't have shared this beforehand)...you are ONE BRAVE WOMAN! I will never travel alone on a road trip with the kids. Last summer we got a flat tire, in the desert, in the middle of nowhere. No cell phone service, nothing. We had to take out BOTH car seats and all our gear from the back to get to the spare tire and jack. So here I am, sitting on the side of a two-lane highway, with two babies while my DH changes the flat tire. And that my friends, is why DH will always be traveling with me! ;)
