Well, naps are gone, they are climbing out of cribs and now quiet time does not even work. I am at my wits end.. Crib tents were borrowed from a friend who had twins and they both screamed in terror when we put them on. Beds are now in our near future and I am scared. I know that my good sleepers are now gone!!

Now even a simple car ride in the afternoon puts them out quick , so that messes up bedtime big time.

If you got this far thanks for letting me vent..

I'm sorry Laura!!! I fear that we aren't far behind you in this department! I am especially dreading it with the new baby due to arrive in a matter of weeks.

Maybe switching to the beds will make a difference? I know I'm dreading it, but sometimes things aren't as horrible as you build them up to be in your head. I would be sure to make "rules" about staying in bed, etc. and plan to enforce them! Hopefully they'll be so in love with their new beds that you'll be able to get them to nap again or atleast have the quiet time. I would put a gate on their door, give them some books and tell them that they have to sit in their beds quietly for an hour.

I hope you are able to find a good solution! I'll be looking out for advice here shortly I'm sure ;)

Your post is what I fear in the future. We have such great sleepers now, and I too am terrified of the bed transition. I hope things go very smoothly for you so that you can come back and share with us your great experience.

As someone who moved all four of my kids out of cribs before two years of age - it is NOT always scary. We have had minimal issues - mostly with Zach who has always needed to "bounce" himself to sleep climbing in bed with his big brother. But, that only lasted about a week and well after we had made the switch. Once we figured out a better way to get them to bed at night, we haven't had any issues.

We moved all of the kids to a twin bed between 15 months and 20 months. Matt and Mila were out of necessity as they had a baby sibling on the way and we needed the crib. It worked so well with the older two, we just went with what worked for us with Zach and Hannah.

Just wanted to let you know that despite all of the horror stories that you hear, it isn't always a horror. Best of luck. Besides, this sleep thing is likely a phase and your good sleepers may return.

Micah and Lucas started climbing out of their cribs at 18 months so we made the transition to beds before their second birthday as well. The transition was a cake walk. We had their big boy room done for quite sometime and would let them play in their to get used to it. One night I said "who is ready for night nights?" They grabbed their pillows and loves and jumped into their big boy beds  , I wasn't ready for them to do it but they were. We tucked them in and went downstairs and they didn't move, I balled because they didn't need me but what are you gonna do. Naps are tricky, I stay in there until they fall asleep or really relax but nighttime is wonderful!

I hear ya! When my girls were two neither of them napped unless they were in the car. Kaitlyn has never been a good sleeper though. Kelly was more willing to sleep but gave up naps early too. As far as beds go, we moved them into toddler beds just before their second birthday and they did well with them at night. There was a short period when they needed to be reminded it was bedtime but overall they transitioned well. Beds aren't that scary!
