I am unable to sleep. I laid in bed for about an hour then for another half an hour I laid in the chair. Nothing I am still awake and can't seem to fall a sleep. My left arm gets really ressless so I know that is part of it and I have a lot on my mind. All I want to do is go to bed and get a good night sleep since my son will be up at 6:30. Has anything helped you go to sleep? Any suggestions?

    Thanks

I don't have any advice but I am right there with you, I've been laying here for an hour with the laptop trying to make myself so sleepy so when i turn it off i can get some rest. I hope someone else has some advice! I tried tylenyol pm (per the suggestion of the ob) but it made me sleep worse!

I can't think of any suggestions, but I can never sleep either! I have horrible pelvic pain so I somtimes can't even get into bed let alone sleep! The worst part is that we don't get cable so all I do is watch this really terrible stuff that I never watched before it went into rerun TV! :p

not to be the voice of discouragement but I can't sleep tonight either, but i'm not pg.

one thing that has consistently helped during pg and after BF is drinking celestial seasonings sleepy time tea. it's a chamomile and mint based tea. Also cutting out all chocolate, caffeine, etc.

I started sleeping with a body pillow at 18 wks. and sometimes a warm shower would calm me down enough. also writing in my online diary helped clear my mind.

Hopefully something will work for you.

Ahh sleep I remember that, it is the thing I used to do before I got pregnant. Last night I was up all night and I too tried the Tylenol pm and it didn’t help me either. The ironic thing for me was this morning is the first morning in a week that my son actually slept past 6:30, isn’t that how it always goes?

I couldn't sleep much at night during my pregnancy either. I ended up napping on & off during the day.

You mentioned your arm was kinda restless...I had restless legs during my pregnancy and that was part of the reason I didn't sleep. It can also affect arms. Tylenol PM can worsen it. Someone on this board told me restless legs/arms could be due to a lack of iron during pregnancy, so after I checked with my OB about it, I increased my daily iron intake and that helped tremendously. I just wish I'd known earlier in the pregnancy!

Good luck--for me, carrying twins was the toughest thing I've ever done! :hug99:

Sorry you had a rough night. Ditto what the pp said about your iron intake, but check w/ your OB first. When I was pg w/ L & M, it was probably from week 30 until that I quit sleeping. I think it was my bodies way of getting me ready for the next 13 months of no sleep.
I hope you find a solution.

I am right there with you. I am up every 45 min to an hour with peeing, painful contractions, restless leg, restless babies, hot flashes, or heartburn. Benedryl tabs, tylenol, and tums used to be my saving grace and they don't even work anymore. I am actually convinced I might get more sleep when the babies come out-crazy isn't it? Hang in there-one of my girlfriends keeps telling me "This too shall pass". Hope this helps.

Thanks for your suggestions and now I see that I am not the only one not sleeping. I did finally fall a sleep and my son slept in until 8 so that was nice. I am on iron pills for low iron.

    Thanks ladies!

I have found that if I take a benedryl and then a nice warm relaxing bath, or get in the pool for a few minutes that it relaxes me enough to fall right to sleep! And the benedryl helps with being able to fall back asleep after waking up to use the bathroom in the night!

I can't sleep either!!! I haven't tried the Tylenol PM, but from the responses it sounds like it doesn't help. I think the earliest I have gone to sleep this week is 3AM. And everything is boring - TV, computer, reading... not fun!

Hope you are hanging in there and are able to take a nap or two when your son is napping!

I just got over three weeks of raging insomnia--2-4 hours of broken up sleep a night. I was a wreck! I tried everything I could think of with pillows, baths, etc.

I finally talked to my OB, and she said I could take Unasom. I've been taking about 1/4 of an adult dose, and that's helped me get past the "I'm so frustrated trying to go to sleep that I can't get to sleep" point. I've had about four good night's sleep in a row, and I feel like a different person

I've also cut out all caffeine after my morning cup of coffee (can't quite get by without that!!), and try to do stretches (especially my legs and shoulders) about a half hour before going to bed.

Good luck, and hang in there!!

I'm 19w1d, and I don't even remember the last time I had a good night's sleep  Between getting up every 90 minutes to pee plus leg cramps plus my right arm feeling really restless (I didn't know you could get restless arm syndrome as well as leg -- makes me feel a little better knowing I'm not crazy!), it's horrible. I figure this is just my wakeup call to what my sleepless life will be like as a mom of twins, but it would be nice if it didn't have to start so many months before the babies arrive!

So, no advice to give you -- just empathy! :hug99:

I've been having a terrible time with heart burn and swollen feet that has been keeping me up at night. The worst was when I had a UTI and felt like I needed to pee at least every hour, but barely anything would come out! Soo frustrating!

I usually end up walking around or sitting with my laptop for a while until I get sleepy again...I'm sorry to say it doesn't get any better the further along you get, but it's good preparation for when our babies are here that's for sure!

I don't have problems falling asleep, but after my second trip to the bathroom (usually 2 - 3 a.m.) I have major problems going back to sleep! That's about the time my hips start cramping up from sleeping on my sides. So FRUSTRATING. If it weren't for napping in the car (I carpool) on the way to work, and naps at lunchtime, I'd go crazy.

Wow I am feeling scared now...I am having sleepless nights and I am only 12 weeks....Now I wonder how bad it will be when I get to be almost due... I seem to have a hard time sleeping at night. I wake up 5 to 6 times a night to pee. I do nap during the day when I can find time. I also have been trying the warm baths or showers at night to relax me before going to bed. Sometimes it works sometimes it does not. Also I agree with a post earlier that said Journaling will help write out your feelings. It helps organize your thoughts. As for the restless arm...I also agree check with your doctor about your Iron... My doctor told me to eat up on foods more high in Iron so I have made it a habit to eat oatmeal everyday and tuna every so often. There is lots of foods with Iron you just need to find them. If your doctor recommeneds a pill then take it. It will help you. I hope you are able to rest a little soon. Take care.

I was having leg cramps that would wake me from a sound sleep. My peri said to take calcium tablets 2 a day, 3 if I need to. It helped a TON

I have had a few nights of restlessness, nothing helped, would lay on the couch for an hour and then finally call it a night.

My Dr said it was okay to take a mild sleep sedative like Unisom, and or Benedryl. I havent had to use it yet for this pregnncy, but Im getting there. Its not about falling asleep, its about staying asleep for me...

Im sorry! I know it sucks!
