    Hi,
I'm 26 + weeks along and have this cold for over a week now. Any advice on what's safe to take? The last 3 nights I haven't slept 'cuz I'm coughing so much. I can't breathe since my nose is so plugged. I have a sore throat only in the left lymp gland area. I've been drinking fluids (I hate water when I'm sick, but I'm drinking it) I can't stand popping cough drops one after another so I don't choke & cough.... I have a glucose test tommorow and I'm hoping these cough drops don't add too much sugar to my system and mess up the results!!!
Can I take cough syrup? I am taking tylenol twice a day for my headache...

I am sorry. That sounds so miserable. I would suggest that you call your doctor. They would know what is safe or may have a prescription. I fight major congestion through out my whole pregnancy.

Hi, so sorry you are sick!
A few things that help me are:
Hot water w/lemon and honey. The lemon gives you the vit C and the honey actually acts as a cough suppressant.
    Chicken broth
    Tylenol
    Humidifier
As much rest as you can stand
Curling up on the coach with a good movie....LOL.

    Hope you feel better soon.

Boy, do I know the answer to this question. Mine lasted a month...and I thought I was going to die!

Take the cough syrup. :):) My dr. said Robitussin DM is totally fine.

Get a vaporizer going in that place of yours – you need to add moisture to the air.

Try to avoid foods that are causing all the mucus. It’s hard but after a month I was willing to do ANYTHING. Foods such as sugar, soda, artificial sweeteners, MSG, food additives, anything fried, saturated fats, ice cream, dairy products, white pasta and bread, salt, all sulfites and preservatives used in processed foods.

    Feel better!

Hi, What helped me was....hot wtr.w/lemon & honey, hot herbal non-caffinated teas w/ lemon & honey, lots of 100% juices (apple, orange, grae, etc.), plenty..plenty..plenty of rest, drinking lots of wtr., eating fruit, eating soups. was surprised at how fast I recover fromth runny nose -watery eyes-stuffy nose- sinus cold. Because I was always used to Thera Flu to get me through when ws not pregnant. Good Luck!

Dark chocolate. I'm NOT lying! It has something in it called Theobromine that is a better cough reducer than anything over the counter or even cough syrup w/ codeine in it. The darker the chocolate the better, but I don't like the super bitter stuff. When I first found this out, I thought it was too good to be true. But it's totally worked for me, and for numerous friends that I've told about it. What I've read says that 2 oz works for about 4 hours. That's a lot of chocolate to eat in a day, so I usually start w/ 1 1/2 or so, then eat about an oz every 3 hours. Of course, if you have something like bronchitis, nothing is going to totally take away the coughing. For that (last Nov), I had to go to the Dr. and get an inhaler.

I had this back in Dec. I had Lemon/honey tea. About 4 lemons and 2 tablespooms of honey each night. I slept with a humidifier, and I put Vick Vapor rup on my chest each night and made sure I slept with a high neck shirt to keep my chest warm all night. Good luck!

Benadryl is one of the safer things to take during pregnancy and takes care of most all of those symptoms. You get rid of the sinus problems, it will get rid of your cough. If you get the children's bendadryl, liquid form kicks in a lot quicker than the pills do. Like anything else though, take the least amount that will help ya. Good luck!

mY np And midwife said Benedryl was fine and even half doses of sudafed, but call your Dr and ask. I had a cold and took all of it, got it from my son, high fevers lots of drainage. Benedryl would help best Id think!! You poor thing, doesn't it stink to be sick too?????

I have been sick for a week or two, since my son keeps getting sick, and I started getting bad bad headaches, like I couldnt even care for my son bad. Turns out I got a sinus infection, now on antibiotics, and they told me sudafed. I too try not to take anything, but I was in major pain. Your doctor should be able to tell you what to take. If you do take cold meds, they told me nothing that was multi symptom. Just plain old stuff, but call and ask exactly what to take if you absolutely have to. You need sleep and your health!

Thank you everyone!!! I went to the doctor again today since it's been 3 weeks now with this cold & sore throat... (that's the worst part)... I'm on amoxicillin 500 mg and she did tell me sudifed was safe to take. I've been doing the tea lemon/honey thing, liquids, etc. I wish that I could say rest, but I haven't been sleeping well at all. Thank you everyone for your responses!!!!

I just got put on amoxicillin too now because of a sinus infection. I thought it was normal pregnancy congestion but turns out I had a cold that progressed.
Hopefully we will all feel better soon.

I hope that I don't have what my twin has.... She called me yesterday to inform me that she's got a sinus infection and has been perscribed everything under the sun. She's had this burning, on fire sore throat for 3 months now (along with the sinus infection).... I don't think that I could take it.... 3 weeks now has been horrible with it. I can deal with everything else - it's this sore throat... It severe. :(
