I am so bored. Most of you know that i have a hard time being a SAHM. I don't know what to do! We walk, go to the park sometimes but not much to do after that. Mitchy is 6 and the twins will be 2 in August. Any suggestions, advice, things to do lists, anything that you do to keep occupied and no, house work does not count!!! :p :p :acute:

Summer is a GREAT time for kids events. I used to manage 14 summer camps for a school district and here are some of the resources we used to keep the kids busy without spending a bundle.

*Check your public library or Barnes & Noble for story times, puppet shows, etc.
*Check your local city parks & rec departments for classes, events, etc. outdoor summer concerts, etc.
*Find out when the local summer street fairs are around your town. Around here ours have free events for kids (crafts, bouncy houses, pony rides, etc)
*Get a calendar of events for your local malls, city center, etc - lots of times they have free kids events.
*Find out which beaches/lakes in your area have lifeguards & playground equipment and go for a picnic/beach day
*Go to farmers markets (each town around here has their own on a different day...so we make the rounds in summer) :)
*Sporting events: lots of teams (WNBA, MBA, minor league baseball, soccer) have "kids day" or "kids camp" games scheduled during the day with special events just for kids. Most of these events were $5 tickets and lots of them included a sack lunch.
*If you're religious you could also look into a vacation bible school program (probably only for your older one).
*Get in touch with your local twin club and check out the summer playdates/events they have planned. Ours has playdates about every week for various age groups and picnics/campouts/etc planned throughout the summer.

My summer recently went from being unscheduled to very hectic. We have Kids Free Movie once a week at our local cinema. Swim lessons two days a week. Storytime at the library on Fridays. Playdate at the park once a week. We also spend a lot of time outside playing (me gardening). Weekends we have been spending at our Lake House or at the Pool. I feel like we are never home anymore.

i am TOTALLY in the same exact boat as you. i get so bored sometimes that i actually feel depressed. i'm glad you posted that cause some people are giving some really great suggestions. i don't know how old your twins are but it's just so hard to do so many of these things when they are the age my kids are. only one is walking (which for now could be a good thing) but they also still don't have much of an attention span so things like movies just won't work for my kids. I'm afraid to bring them to the library because although my kids LOVE LOVE LOVE to look at books and for me to read to them, they are even destroying the board books we have and i can't imagine what they would do with regular books. i have hundreds of books for them to read but i haven't pulled them out because i really love my books and want to teach them that they have to love/take care of books but they are too young to understand. i can't go to the beach with them by myself and don't really have anyone to help me. my teacher friends finish school today for the summer so i'm hoping i can do a few more things that i normally can't do when they come to visit. i'm going to venture to the park as i found one right near by that has baby swings. but i'm even afraid to do that cause i just don't know how to manage with the two of them in a public place. i'm scared i'll turn my back for a second and one will be gone. i look forward to more and more suggestions so i can try out a few. sweetpea gave a ton of suggestions so i'll try some of those out and i'm going to check out the toddlertoddler website. GL (for both of us ;) )

I actually invested a couple hundred dollars in a invitation software and printer and started a ebay store business, so even if I don't go anywhere with my kiddos, when they go down for a nap I have something to do, plus its been a great source of extra cash for furniture, trips, etc.

I got a season pass to the beach. Even though it is an hour's drive away it is a great way to get out all day long.

I also have a year pass to the local kid's zoo. We go two or three times a month. We bring our lunch and hang out for an hour or sometimes three or 4 hours depending on the weather.

I joined a gym that has free childcare. The girls get to play in a big padded room with other kids while I get to work out AND shower! Love this.

We do lots of picnics in the park and the library on rainy days. Now that they are a bit older we have gone on train trips one or two towns over- very exciting.

ETA: Today we sat on the porch and drew pictures with sidewalk chalk then sprayed it all away with spray bottles of water. Kept them entertained and cool at the same time!

    HTH!

You've got several great ideas already! Painting is always fun! My kids enjoy going to the waterpark. Have the kids help bake cookies! I know they're not really that helpful but they sure enjoy it! I sometimes give my kids a rag or a wipe and have them wash the walls - they LOVE it! Another thing mine enjoy on a hot day is to go outside and draw on the cement with an ice cube. It keeps them cool, they really enjoy it and there is no mess to clean up - the sun just dries up the pictures!

I take the kids to go feed the ducks.
    Go to the park.
Go to the beach to build sand castles.
Paint the drive way with water and paint brushs.
We have a year long membership to our city's small zoo and go there for about an hour. Same thing for the children's museum for rainy days.
