L&M both are pulling up and Mattie will try to stand up from the crawling positon (still not actually crawling though) but I am sooo nervous about it. They want to let go, but I hold onto them, I am just so afraid they will fall and hurt themselves. :vava: How did you all get over that feeling and let them go on their own?

Brandy, you can't prevent them from falling 100% of the time so you just have to think about it this way..... they aren't very far from the floor as it is. So, if they should fall it will most likely just scare them a little bit and that's ok! They'll get over it! I PROMISE!! :hug99:

    Hey Brandy,

It is a rough stage to go through in the beginning! Lots of bumps! But, honestly, the bumps that they take is really how they learn! So, just try to make it as safe and add a little extra padding on the floor, a blanket works fine. They learn to be more careful fairly quickly! :hug99:

I was going to say the same things PPs said. So now I'm just going to say good luck. :)

I went through the same exact fear!!! And let me tell you, no matter how much I tried to protect them and no matter how much BOTH dh and I worried, they still fell a good few times. Especially Lorien. She had a couple of really bad falls but she never really cried THAT long. She would cry anywhere from 20 sec to I think her longest cry was like 2 minutes. On top of it, we have A LOT of hard tiled floor so we were in total panic mode and sometimes still are. I think you just have to kind of go through it and it just eventually lessens (your fear that is). I actually posted this same question a couple of months ago. I also posted a question about whether or not we should buy a helmet for Lorien  That's how fearful we were. I am starting to get a little more used to it but as pp said, they are really not that far from the ground. One of our main problems was that Lorien like to climb on the bottom bar of the highchair and she would slip and fall. Well, we finally put the highchair in our other living room where it is well carpeted so that if she fell at least she would fall onto the carpet. I think there is nothing you can do to lessen your fear. All you can do is know that you have done everything you can to make their environment as safe as possible and then let them do their thing. If they do fall, console them quickly but don't dote on them forever. You want to encourage them to keep trying and not let them develop a fear of it. Kind of like the ole falling off the horse adage (At least I read this in one of my books). GL

You never get over that feeling.. I still catch my 8 year old. Having said that, they will get better only if you let them learn to catch their balance.
