I just have to vent so I turn to you ladies. My poor little girl is going to need to have surgery on both of her eyes. I feel so horrible for her. Her eyes have been crossing for quite some time. We got little pink glasses a few months ago in hopes that her eyes would begin to correct themselves but they are getting worse rather then better. So today we went to see the Opthamologists and decided that she needed surgery in the next 6 to 8 weeks. They will be calling me soon to schedule it. I just can not help to feel bad and sad. As a mother our job is to protect them and I know that it is for the best but I feel so badly that she will have to go through this. To think of her in pain breaks my heart. Hopefully one surgery will do the trick but there is a chance she will need another one. I sit here crying knowing that it will be hard but hope that it will all be worth it when it is all said and done.

your feelings are 100% normal (as each one of us would/do feel the same way!)... big hugs to you and I think you'll be surprised at how well she'll do with the surgery (my 4th DS had surgery at 9 months and I was soooooo sad - but by the end of the first day he was doing MUCH better than I had ever anticipated... )
    we're thinking of you :)

Jen i am so sorry! It is so hard to think of them needing surgery or really anything at such a young age. I am sure that in the end it will be worth it, but getting there is so hard. Good luck!

I am sorry, Jen. What you are feeling is totally normal, though.

If it helps at all, I had a few eye surgeries when I was little and I don't remember anything about them except waking up in the night and my Mom was not there. They used to not let parents stay the night back then. It is one of my earliest memories. So be happy that you will be there to hold her and she will feel safe and secure with you. She will bounce back in no time!

    Jen I'm so sorry.

Just a side note, my cousin's little boy had a crossing eye and had surgery on it and it did wonders! She said he wasn't in pain adn they had a hard time slwoing him down after it. his eyes look great and you can't even tell. She said it was more painful to her than him. I hope that's the same for you guys!

 Jen we are dealing with this with one of my dd. The doctor hasn't made the decision to operate yet as the glasses appeared to be working. I am actually getting in touch with them today because her right eye is crossing a lot even with the glasses on. I felt and still feel a lot of guilt about it, like you said you want to protect them the best you can. Pleast keep me updated on how she does.

    Big hugs!

And you're decidedly watching out for her! By doing the surgery, you're protecting her vision. Still hard, but definitely the right thing to do!

I had eye surgery for the same thing at age 5

My DS was 16 mo. when he had his done. We did the patch which worked but once it was discontinued his eyes turned back in (one worse than the other). So within a few weeks his surgery was scheduled for that following Monday. Our pediatric neurological opthamologist said it had to be done right away because at that age it affects brain development. My DS is now 22 mo. and is doing excellent, knock on wood no problems since. GL and pm me with any ?'s! I will say the 1st 24 hrs is the worst and after that it is much better. it is hard becasue you have to keep them from rubbing their eyes. My DS did sleep alot of the time though!

I am so sorry she has to go thru this. I am not sure if this will make you feel better, but I had eye surgery for a lazy eye before I was one year old. My mom tells me that they were out in the waiting room waiting for the surgery to be done wondering why it was taking so long only to find out the nurses were playing with me and I was smiling, so I guess I wasn't in too much pain. I don't remember anything about it. I hope things go as well for your little one.
