I am insane!

Tonight we had a blackout that lasted a good 2 hours. It was time for bed and the power had not come on yet. That meant the fans weren't on and no sound machines that they were used to. It was my turn to put Kiefer to bed. I tried to put him in his crib but he was so scared. He was not about to rest in there! So I laid on the single bed nearby and he climbed up next to me and laid down with his head at first on my arm, then chest, then belly and got really comfortable.

Then the power went on. He didn't move. He was so tired and he had decided he wanted to stay there, but the lights went on and it was too bright in the room. I got up to turn down the lights to very dim as I usually have it for him (Kiefer is still a little afraid of the dark). I turned back and there he was with his head on the pillow (kind of a fluffy pillow, but breathable). I didn't have the heart to force him back in to his crib where I know he's be safe. He just really didn't want to go in there. I even had his turtle light on for him so there'd be some light in the room, but he really didn't want to go in there. So what did I do? Crazy (and hopefully not stupid) me got his lovey, his seahorse and dog lovey from his crib and covered him in his blanket and sat next to him. He was so comfy. He really seemed like that's where he wanted to be. I decided to try it and I left him there. I told DH and he was not pleased to say the least. He would rather I go in and put him in his crib, but he really seemed so comfy in the bed. It's not that high and he's fallen off it during play many times and barely cried then. He told me if there's any problems, it's my responsibility. I'm hoping Kiefer proves that he's ready for this. We had gotten the toddler extension for his crib. If he does ok tonight on the bed, I'll be putting that extension on tomorrow so he can at least be in his crib to please his daddy too. We have the new cordless blinds coming in Thursday, even though he's never seemed interested in playing with the blinds anyhow, so I'm not as concerned at this time.

I hope he does well. I hope the pillow isn't too fluffy. I was not prepared for this, but he's been so independent these days. He's been wanting to put on his own pants, climb into his own high chair, feed himself, drink from a topless cup, brush his own teeth, brush his own hair... I can go on. I'm not too surprised he's thinking he's ready for a bed instead of a crib.

I think it is totally fine!!! I gave my older two pillows when they turned one and put them in beds with bed rails at 18 months, they never had any trouble with it. If he is happier there, then go for it[IMG]

If he was that comfy I wouldn't have moved him either. I think he'll be fine!

I talked with my mother to ask another opinion. Cameron came down with the stomach bug around 5pm today. We realized that Kiefer's fussiness could possilby be due to him feeling a little ill. If we let him stay on the bed and he throws up, that bed is not covered and his vomit could ruin the bed. So, we decided to sneak in and put him in his crib anyhow. He was fast asleep when we got there so I'd say he's proven DH wrong already and he can sleep in a twin bed now! But, with the intent on saving that bed for future use, he's back in the crib and sleeping soundly. I'll be putting on that toddler extension for the crib probably tomorrow assuming he isn't feeling too ill and not vomiting. I think he's ready! He doesn't move nearly as much as Cameron does in his sleep.

It sounds like he might be ready! I hope he slept well last night and that both he and Cameron are feeling better

How are your boys feeling today? It really sounds like Keifer might be ready for a toddler bed. I know plenty of people who have moved their children out of cribs at this age! Good luck and let us know how it goes! :)

Well, when we went back in last night, he was fast asleep as you know. He did ok in his crib though. I think I will try him out with the toddler extension. I just want to make sure he does not get sick yet. Cameron has a slight fever this morning so Kiefer is not out of the woods yet. So far so good though. No vomits or diarrhea for either of them this morning. Just a lot of shenanigans! GOtta love 'em ;) I know I do!
