It is almost 3:30 in the morning and my Noah has been getting up and standing in his crib SCREAMING for the past hour. I have gone in 3 times to show him how to get back down and try to go to sleep. Then of course since we CIO he gets louder since I have gone in the room. His poor brother Jacob has been chiming in because who can sleep through such noise. He has fallen three times and you can hear the THUMP even with the bumper pads on. I want to stay strong and not go in there anymore because it is making it worse but, the SCREAMING. Of course, it is getting weaker because his voice is getting hoarse from the noise he is putting out.

Am I doing the right thing? I feel like this is cruel because it is an added level with him standing up in his crib.

I would keep going in about every 10 mins and laying him down until he falls asleep.
We went through it as well recently and it sucks until they figure out how to get down

I was going in every 10 minutes or so. I just found the screaming would intensify when I left the room. Finally after about an 1 1/2 hour he settled and went to sleep. I think from exhaustion due to the crying. My Jacob and I look rough due to him keeping us up......DH well he always looks rough in the morning....he is just not a morning person. :D

Melony(that is the right spelling? I get mixed up between you and the other Melanie!),

Those boys are determined to keep you hoppin aren't they! I think you are doing the right thing. It will only take about a week or so for him to figure out how to get back down himself, and then the novelty will wear off, and you will once again be in the clear!! With him anyway.

Yes Becky, that is the correct spelling of my name....thanks for remembering. Thanks for letting me think I am doing the right thing. I am trying to be diligent with the CIO but, I do know that he needs a little help getting down. It is nice to know that this to will pass in a week or so.

Is it that they just learn to sleep through the night again after the new skill is mastered? OR They still get up and stand in the night but, can put themselves down?

I think anytime they learn a new skill, their sleep patterns tend to get disrupted. Most of the time, the novelty wears off, and they aren't as excited to get up and do it in the middle of the night, because they are able to get enough practice in during the day. So he will get to that point and start sleeping through again. Until then... :hug99: s!!
