hey all! my husband and some other members of my family smoke. how can i get it across to them what the dangers are about smoking and the dangers of being around twins. i need as much information as i can get. my husband seems to think that when we get back into the house that he is going to just continue lighting up in our house. i have asked him to go outside to smoke because of us in the trailer at this piont but he seems to think that smoking won't effect our babies. i thought that he had learned that lesson when our first daughter was getting ear infections all the time. now he thinks that the ear infections were caused by sinus problems.

i do have other family members that smoke. my mother lives in another state and has informed my brother that she is planning another trip here to see the twins after they are born and she smokes 3 packs a day and also smokes pot! my brother also smokes and smokes pot. i informaed my brother last night that if anyone wants to come and see my girls that they better not have the smell of smoke on them, but i can't give them any reasons or things to tell them that smoke can do even if it is smelled.

Is there any information on this anywhere? ineed effects and dangers of smoking and second hand smoke on multiples. polls will work too. my husband even says that i am just trying to get him to quit because i quit 2 years ago. that isn't true tho. i quit because of my kids and their health. how can i get them all to understand???

Here is a link for you. Good luck! My dh says he is going to stop smoking cold turkey for the babies when they are born. I have been trying to talk him into quitting now! No luck. He does go outside and takes a bath right after smoking. So you can imagin the amount of clothes I have to wash.

Here is a link to Dr. Sears' website regarding smoking (both before and after the birth of the child)

Here is another from the National Cancer Institute:

Congratulations on being tough enough to quit! Smoking around children is hazardous, and sorry to offend any smoking moms, but frankly it's child abuse. Aside from an increased risk of sinus problems (as you mentioned earlier), and asthma, it is also linked to an increased risk of SIDS -- I won't go into the cancer part. I know it's going to be tough to put your foot down when people don't want to listen, but if you have the strength to quit, then I know you have the strength to do what is best for your babies. Good luck!

Good for you for quitting!! I've heard second hand smoke can be so much worse than first-hand smoking! I'm scared to even be in a restaurant where smoke is "nearby." It looks like you've been given a couple of good links. I bet if you did a google search, you'd come across quite a bit. Maybe search for "second-hand smoke fetus," "second hand smoke children" "second-hand smoking effects," etc. Hope you're able to make a difference in DH's thinking. :hug99:
