I want to get a humidifier for the nursery now that we'll be turning on the heat...but I don't know what kind to get. Any suggestions? If you have one you love (especially a cute kid-friendly one), let me know! Thanks!

I went with cool mist, because it's just safer... no getting burned!

Make sure it's a visible mist one though, otherwise it doesn't help with colds... I don't always put the babies' one on at night, but mine is always on, as I'm always congested otherwise, and the difference is just amazing.

I voted cool mist. One for the reason Fran27 posted and also, I think that they grow 'bugs' (mold, mildew) slower. That being said, I did last winter only use the humidifier when they had colds. Otherwise I just let it be.

We used a cool mist humidifier during the winter. We have one where you can put Vicks vapor pads in for when they have a cold, it was extremely helpful during those times.

We also have cool mist and it's pretty cute - shaped like a frog so it's cute in their room. You can see the mist coming out of the top of it, we just used it last night. We usually only use it if the girls sound congested though, not every night.

Cool mist, just because it's a bit safe, easier for me to clean, and doesn't grow stuff as fast.

I started off the winter last year just using it when they were sick but then pretty much ended up using it every night because one or the other or both were congested/sick for most of the winter. I also love the Vicks Vapor Plugin things...those are awesome and I used those strictly for when they were sick and they seemed to help too.

Before I had these guys I only used warm mist. It's really the only kind that I think works.. BUT once you have babies you really can't use them anymore. Steam will cause serious burns. I threw all of mine away and have cool mist in the nursery now. I guess it has to work cuz there's less water in there in the morning :)

    Anyway, no steam!! Danger!!

We have a warm mist one and only use it when they are sick. The 1st thing I do though before getting them out of their cribs is pick it up and put it on the bathroom counter. Ours has usually shut off before they get up anyway so it's not hot.
