Does anyone have a humidifier they really like? One of my girls has a bad cold and I am hoping that might help.
Aren't there different kinds? Like cold vs. warm? What kind is best?
    Thanks! I'm clueless! [IMG]

make sure you ask your pedi first!!! I was going to purchase on and my pedi said NO! She said that actually what is usually needed is a de-humidifier!

Definitely cool mist only. Warm mist humidifiers have caused many burns on curious toddlers who have touched the heating units (the units must get hot enough to create steam!) My pedi recommended cool mist only because of this.

Also, get one with a replaceable filter, and one with a main chamber that can be tossed into the dishwasher for cleaning. As long as you keep it clean and free of mold, you'll be fine.

Interesting that you bring this up. I purchased the Vicks Cool Mist from BRU shortly after mine were born, incase I ever needed one. Well, this week was the first week I did. I opened the box to find that it was a store return - dirty, yucky stuff on the outside and with no directions. I was SO p*ssed. Who takes a return and doesn't look at it before they re-stock it?? I am planning a trip to BRU on Friday, I obviously don't have my receipt (uh, from 8 months ago)...if they don't exchange it I will be furious!!

So, note to self, before you buy it be sure to check the box to make sure it doesn't look like a return! It never occured to me to do that (they re-taped the bottom of the box, rather than the top!) [IMG]

It always surprises me when pedis say not to use humidifiers. [IMG] Maybe it depends on what region you live in? Anyway, the Vicks cool mist is the one I have and it's awesome. Buy lots of filters though (they are cheap) and even consider investing in the anti-mold solution. Otherwise, as pp said..frequent cleaning and you will be good to go. I don't know what I'd do without mine!

We bought the Vicks humidifier at our local drug store and we have been very happy with it. Diffinately go with a cool mist humidifier. Our ped so never to use a warm one. We use it every single night cause with the central heat it dries them out. You do have to keep up with the cleaning and maintenance of it though which is with every humidifier. Cause we use it every night my dh does a vinegar cleaning of it once a week.

We recently got a cool mist one. I went to the store and was a little overwhelmed at the number and types. While at the store, I called my husband and had him ask some of the guys he works with who are doctors what they recommend (works in a lab). They said to go with the standard cool mist kind. They said that humidifiers are all basically the same (cool and warm mist), because once the mist hits the area it cools. He said that the most important thing was to get the solution to prevent the bacteria from growing.

We used to use an Evenflo humidifier, and it was a big pain to keep it clean and keep buying filters (over $11 each). So, when I saw the Crane Cool Mist Ultrasonic Humidifiers (they are generally less than $30 and don't need filters), I thought we'd give them a try. They seem to work for us and they're so easy to use. They come in a lot of cute shapes -- cow, pig, frog, etc. You can find them on Amazon. HTH!

My all-time favorite is the Walgreens humidifer because it does not have one of those disgusting "filters" (that don't work anyway) and it is so easy to clean.
