Sorry I have to vent a bit. I am 29 weeks and feel huge, my last appointment I was only measuring a half week bigger than what should be, so that is not bad. I have gained 40lbs already, I know, I know, that is a lot but I would like to hear other twin mommies experiences with being pregnant with a singleton.

I was running up until 28 weeks and now walk 30 minutes a day plus I am not eating an more than normal, my husband thinks I don't eat enough. I have gained all the weight in my legs, they feel like tree trunks I would just like an idea of where all this weight gain is coming from. Has anyone experienced this, is it water weight? ( I know I can only hope that it is that)

Please share your experiences, for some reason the weight gain is really bugging me this time around.

I've always carried "huge", but it was mostly baby with my singletons (I repeat mostly, certainly not all). I gained about 40-45 lbs with each one and my babies were over 10 lbs. With the twins I gained 90lbs but half of that was fluid. When I gained the "water weight" with the twins, it was mostly in my legs, so that could be a factor for you.

I never ate an extraordinary amount. I never ran or did any formal exercise though (didn't before I was pg, either).

I can't say I'm 'huge'...but I can say with certainty that in my last two singleton pregnancies I've gained just the same amount as I did with my twin pregnancy.... 30-35 pounds. So to me, given that I gained that same amount with my twins I felt almost embarrassed about gaining it with my singleton pregnancies...it's not like I had the extra twin weight in there! LOL. You definitely have done way better than I have with the exercise. It's possible that it's water...do you you feel like you have swelling going on that you should talk to your doctor about? I've never had that issue, but I always thought most women could tell when they were swelling, particularly in the feet, ankles and legs... I know after I had the c/s with the twins I was swollen and those areas felt really squishy like you could just feel the water under the skin...

This is what happened to me with my last pregnancy - although I gained 40 lbs with both the twin and single pregnancy. It does feel embarrassing! It seems like with your exercising and healthy eating your legs shouldn't be ballooning up. Maybe you should check with your dr?

I feel the same way! I am measuring right on schedule (20-21 weeks) but I feel so much bigger and it's already somewhat difficult to breathe. The twin pregnancy, my first, was easier than this one all around. I would look into the weight gain as well, especially if you think it's water weight. When was your last dr. appointment? Did you gain the weight suddenly or over time? Do you have a history of pre-eclampsia? Your doctor will do a urine dipstick each time you visit and will immediately catch any protein in your urine. good luck, you're really far along even if it feels like you'll be pregnant forever.

Thanks for the reply ladies! I am starting to get little bits of swelling but nothing to be concerned about. I had a Dr. Appt. yesterday and everything was fine, no protein in urine, PB was normal and I only gained 2-3 pounds which is right on a pound a week. My weight gain has leveled off so my midwife is not concerned. My stomach is measuring 28 weeks and I will be 29 on Monday. It must be my body type and how I am carrying. It is just hard when you are gaining as much weight with a singleton as I did with twins. It is good to know I am not the only one.

I've always carried really big also. With the twins I was massive. LOL With this one I got big real quick and finally slowed down around 20ish weeks. Now at 30 weeks it's picking up big time. Lots of ligament pain. I felt really good up until about 28 weeks and this pregnancy hit me like a ton of bricks. I'm exhausted, can barely walk without pain, etc.... Hoping it's stress from getting ready to move (moving next week!). In any case just remind yourself this won't last for too much longer and you can lose the weight soon. The weight is bugging me this time around also. I think it's cause I don't have the "twin" excuse. LOL

Forgot to add - I've consistently measures 1/2 weeks to a week farther than I am - but so has my little man.

I never kept track of my weight gain in any of my pregnances other than Blake's but I can tell you that I was HUGE with him. I had people constantly commenting on how huge I was and that my baby was going to be huge. He was 6lb 15oz so definitely not huge. I guess I am just all stretched out and carry big.
