I've heard so many raves for HSHHC and I have ordered the book. However, I'm wondering if anyone has experienced a lack of success with it... particularly regarding naptime (but all experiences are welcome). If it didn't work for you, do you have any idea why? Child's temperament? Any other factors? We're having a really tough time here at nap time... and I want to hope for success but be prepared for everything! :)

If you have it on order, but are already expecting it to fail then you may not have good luck with it.

I liked it a lot and had great success, but my SIL preferred Ferber's methods. You really have to find what suits you and your children and go with it. I would suggest that you give it a chance and read as much as you can when you get it. Then you can try one of the methods he has in the book. (He gives different ideas, that's what I thought was great about it.)

If you are having a horrible time with naps. Try tweaking your timing a little bit. If you aren't catching them on the front end of tired, you might be missing your window of opportunity (this is just me talking). Try going about 10 or 15 min. earlier possibly. Could be all the difference.

It's hard to get it all going, but once you do it will be SO worth your efforts!! :hug99: Hang in there!!! :love0028:

I expected the worst with my son Evan, but I tried HSHHC anyway. He was a very sensitive, colicky baby - I never thought we'd get him falling asleep on his own or sleeping long stretches. For the first three months he barely slept outside of his swing, my arms, or in the Moby Wrap. But, miraculously, HSHHC has worked wonders for us - although we don't let our babies do much crying, despite what the book says.

Thanks-- I am *really* hopeful but still wanted to hear anyone's challenges related to HSHHC... I'd be too upset if I were completely counting on it to work for us and then it didn't, so I wanted to make sure I was approaching it realistically, and as informed as possible. :)

It has worked really well for us, especially with my first. The only (major) challenge I still have with the twins is their early wake up time (5-6 am, lately closer to 5 am). I've spoken to Weissbluth about it many times, we tried everything ... earlier, later, CIO but nothing seems to work ... so we're both a little lost here. He told me not to get myself overstressed, it's hard enough as it is, and some kids are just early risers (although they do go back down until 7 am) ... he said they will outgrow it ... still waiting, but we're going to seperate them as well early next year in our new (temporary) house.

    Hi!
I have the book HSHHC and I found it interesting--but I didn't think the method would work well with twins. He says to put the babies down for naps before 2 hrs. are up, but he just says if one or both babies are crying after a few minutes--you have 2 choices--to see if he can be soothed and retried or to abandon it for the day and try another day. I didn't find this very helpful--as to keep waiting for the next day and next day seemed irrational. Did you try specific things and how did they work?

If anything you can use it as a guide for a place to start. I think I would have been lost as to how to get two kids down at the same time for napping and although the book does not address twins specifically, I gave me great guidance!! I dont think you will be disappointed with the advice :)

what does HSHHC stand for? I'm a little slow!! but it sounds like I may need this book - my girls never sleep very long and NEVER in their own beds!

I just bought the book tonight - it is a lot to read. Hope there are some good hints because my DS won't fall asleep unless he is crying - literally. Anyone have a short version - it is a lot to read when you really just want someone to tell you what to do. Anyone just try it with one and then the other? With both it seems like a lot of work and complicated by yourself. I finally got to toss the pee/poop log out now it says I need a sleep/eat log. Makes sense but my life has become one big log

I LOVED this book with my twins. I wish I had heard of it with my older son.

Your biggest concern seems to be temperment etc, to me, that was the BEST part about the book. He takes into account temperment, colick, multiples, household situations & gives tons of suggestions on working out the issues.

My oldest son was in 1st grade, and my husband was working a very demanding job that required LOTS of driving on treacherous mountain roads, so I was extremely concerned about those 2 getting enough sleep. There were some things I wasn't willing to push for fear of interrupting their sleep, and it all worked out on OUR time table.

I work from the angle of "one down, all down". I started this early & still enforce it. They may get up at different times, but down time is TOGETHER. I figure if one is ready for bed, the other isn't far behind and it might prevent the first one from going down if they hear the other one up.

As for the question about the abbreviated version..... try reading the chapter that pertains to your babies age first, then go back to the first few chapters. If I remember correctly the first portion of the book is all about statisics. I read the book before my babies were born & I remember thinking if I hadn't read it early, I moght have never gotten through the first few chapters.
