I posted on my local MOM's Club board for toddler friendly park recommendations and they hit the nail on the head. The park was a 6 minute drive away, completely gated, on a cul-de-sac in a super-elite neighborhood (that I DO NOT live in by the way), and had NO SAND! There were 2 small playgrounds and several Little Tikes forts and slide sets scattered about. They even had riding and push toys! Before we went we stopped at Target to buy big boy shoes (my boys have worn shoes maybe 3 times in their entire life) and they loved them. They even behaved in Target! I know this is terrible but I lined the inside of the cart with a blanket and put both f them inside. I put Cheerios between their legs and threw a couple of toys in and they were great. Well, except for when I stopped the cart - they stood up every time. But at least they knew not to stand while it was moving, right?

Anyway, Caleb walked around pushing a toy he fell in love with almost the entire time (he's VERY new to cruising) and I couldn't have been prouder. He chuckled the whole time as well. We were there for just under an hour and they cried when we had to leave. When they got home they were pooped but still in good spirits despite the fact that they had skipped their afternoon nap. Oh yeah, they had strawberries for the first time today as well...huge hit. All in all it was really just a perfect day and I wanted to tell you guys. They're getting one year molars and both have diarrhea, runny noses, and diaper rashes but they were just angels today. No unnecessary whining or fussing and tons of playing and laughing. And as exhausted as I was by the end of the evening, I didn't even want them to go to bed! How crazy is that?!

WOW! Didn't mean for that to be so long and painfully boring. Sorry  .

That wasn't long OR boring. Isn't it great when all goes well and everyone has a good time? Congrats on finding a great park nearby.

Sounds like you had a great day.

I need to find a cool park like that here. My local walking distance park has been ripped out. So we played in the yard yesterday afternoon.

Good for you!! I know when I learned of all the things that I could do with the boys outside of the house, I felt so liberated!! You should be very proud of yourself!! Now that you have done it once, it gets easier. So you were exhausted, just think of all of the calories that you burned. Hope you adventure out again!!

    Congrats!!

That sounds like so much fun. I wish we had something like that here. So your boys liked their shoes? I have got to get the girls some shoes. They have never wore shoes. Your post was not boring. If anything it inspired me to want to take mine out somewhere to play.

They LOVE them! These are the ones I got but I really wanted these. They were all sold out cause they're so stinking cute and only $9. The sole is just a thick leather with rubber pads on the toe and heel (totally flexible). The ones we actually bought are still very flexible but it's an actual rubber sole. I was somewhat happy that I ended up with those because they did A LOT of walking and I felt safe that thye weren't going to hurt themselves by stepping on anything sharp. They have some super cute girl ones as well. From the link I gave, you can go to browse similar items "Pre-Walk Shoes" and you'll find plenty.

Woohoo! Sounds like a fabulous time! WTG!!  And, ummm.....I wanna come! :D Where IS this awesome park you speak of?! I found an ok one around here, but not spectacular. Of course we DO have all that stuff here...but they seem to like it better when it doesn't belong to them. We were just out by you today for a playdate. It's not a bad drive, you should come check out the 'burbs and play with us! ;)

HOUSTONIANS...The park is at the Maroneal, Kelving, Morningside triangle in Old Braeswood (medical center). From 610 you exit Main St., turn left on Greenbriar, left on Maroneal and you run right into it. Wait, so I guess technically it's not a cul-de-sac at all but it's surrounded by multi-million dollar homes which is enough to keep less ballsy riff-raff than myself from hanging out there  . We should definitely meet up there one day! Just let us know :D.

OMG, that's so funny! I almost lived in the Maroneal!! I know exactly where you are talking about... DD lives right off of 288, I'm going to pass this on!
    Thanks!
