I have been giving the boys sippy cups for about a 1 1/2 now, and they still dont have it down.. They take a drink and then it runs all down there bib. And of course they love to chew on it..
Did anyones else do this? When did they become good at it?
Do you give them formula in it when there good at it?

I've had the same problem with the nuby sippies. Today I finally bought them gerber sippies with spouts that aren't nearly as "chewable" (not made of silicon). I gave the cups to them w/o the valve for a few seconds, put the valve in, and within seconds they were both able to suck and drink from the sippy w/o making a mess. This is the first successful sippy use we've had for 1 1/2 months here. So I suggest trying a different type of sippy to see if that might help. Good luck, and hang in there!

I just kept trying and I would make sucking sounds so they would know what to do, I know it sounds funny and I did it with my oldest too, but it worked. We use the playtex soft spout. Just keep trying.

I've used the Avent and in the beginning (with my oldest) I would take the valve (no spill part) out and help her taking a sip so that she would understand something was actually in there ... a took a little while (just keep offering and trying) but she did get it and at 1 year of age all bottles were gone.

This is interesting. I just purchased the Gerber ones. My kids use them as chew toys and if they do get anything out (water for now) it runs down their chins because it comes out faster than their bottles. I, too, was wondering how quickly they get the hang of it. Not to sound clueless, but I had no idea bottles were supposed to be gone by 1...now I feel like my kids are "behind" because they aren't getting the hang of it at all - my fault for not introducing it quicker I suppose...

Okay, next question. My kids are still taking 5 bottles a day plus cereal and two solids. What does 1 look like in terms of formula with sippie cups?

Funny I could have written your post. We have tried probably 5 differant types of sippy cups with no luck. Actually the one that worked the best for us so far are the nubys with the soft silicon spout. That being said, they don't really suck on it a whole lot but when they chew on it juice comes out. So they are learning what the cups are for at least. I've just decided it will take some time. Have you tried giving your babies a sippy cup with formula in it instead of a bottle at one of the "bottle" feeding times? I would have the bottles close by incase they get frustrated. I haven't tried this but now that I'm writing this I think I will try it today. Good luck I'm sure our kids will figure out this sippy cup thing someday.

I'm in the same boat My son was drinking out of a sippy cup by 7 months! With the twins, they just don't want it. I've tried many brands - now I'm sticking with the Gerber since that is what my son used. The twins just don't like them. At first I was frustrated, but I'm now worrying anymore. They will get the hang of it eventually. If they go to Kingergarden with a bottle - them I'll start to worry! [IMG]

Mine do 3 meals, 4 bottles, snacks and no sippies... I've just about given up on it. They're not big drinkers as it is so I think that makes it harder to get them to take the sippies.
