So for about 4 months now we have been using "trays' to serve food on . These are similar to the hot lunch trays at schools. We have them in boosters and pull them up to the table and put the trays on the table. They have done fantastic with them, but in the last week Henry thinks it is funny to chuck his tray on the floor when he is close to being done. We have tried EVERYTHING. We talk to him before the meal and explain the throwing the tray is naughty. We have tried time outs, making him pick it up, sitting with him at meals. I don't know what else to do. Any suggestions?

I would stop serving him w/ a tray or plate.
I'd give him a little food at a time on a smaller paper plate or whatever until he grows out fo it.

We had to do that, it's more time consuming for you while he's eating, but no more time consuming than picking up peas that rolled everywhere! LOL!

Thanks for all the advice. I think we just have to wait until he grows out of it!

Joey's been doing that this week with her plate/sippy cup when she's done or mad about the drink in the cup. I tell her "no throwing" very firmly and put her in Ellie's crib for a few minutes. That usually solves the problem...at least until the next meal!!

I would consider the meal over! I think at two you can explain that if he throws the tray on the floor that means he is finished and if you followed through once or twice it might be solved.

    Goodluck!

Yep, that is a hard one. I would say to simply eliminate the tray like the pp mentioned. If he is in a booster, put the attachable tray back on and use that until he starts cooperating again.

We had this issue. We found that Brody only threw his plate when he was done. So, when he was even close (we had to keep an eagle eye on him) to even thinking about pitching his plate, we took it away and told him he was done.

We tried the letting it happen then taking it away. We tried the letting him clean it up, we tried the no plate, the food flew anyway.

As soon as we took the plate away and he KNEW he wasn't getting it back. then he'd get upset. We even fell for that one. We WOULD try it - again watching him very closely. When he attempted, it was gone for good.

Good luck! It does eventually go away. Hopefully it'll be sooner vs later.

My boys are still in their boosters with their trays but they eat out of plates/bowls. If they dump their food out of bowl or throw bowl on the floor - it is gone! Consistency is the key! My boys pretty much threw the bowls all the time. Now its only occassionally and they do not cry for very long after I take them away too. They still do not do well with sitting at the table though.
