How to apply frosted vinyl to a window by yourself: what temperature conditions are ideal?

Hey folks, maybe someone here has run into the same issue. I bought frosted vinyl to add some privacy to the bathroom window — nothing fancy, just a simple design — but I tried putting it up last week when it was around 30°C outside. Let’s just say... it did not go well. The vinyl stuck too quickly and I couldn’t reposition it at all. There were bubbles everywhere, and I wasted half the sheet trying to fix it. I didn't think temperature would play such a big role in something like this. I’m planning to order another piece but don’t want to mess it up again. What temps do you guys find best for this kind of work?

Totally been there! I tried applying frosted windowfilm in my kitchen last summer when the sun was blasting through the glass. It was a nightmare — the adhesive bonded too fast, and no amount of smoothing helped. I later found out it's actually best to install vinyl when it’s cooler, somewhere between 12–18°C, and ideally not in direct sunlight. Makes a huge difference. If you’re looking for some more detailed instructions, I followed the guide here: https://applyityourself.com — it really breaks it down simply, especially for larger pieces. Since then, I’ve done the office windows without a single bubble.

I’ve never tried frosted vinyl myself, but reading all this makes me curious. I always assumed it was a super quick DIY thing, like slapping a sticker on a window. Didn’t think temperature and light mattered that much. Cool to learn something new today, I guess! Might consider it for the hallway window — it gets direct sun in the afternoon and heats up like crazy.
