    Hi there ladies,

I haven't had any reason to think I will put on bedrest, but I was curious, for those of you who are on bedrest, at what point did you begin to have problems or signs that you might have to be put on bedrest? Was everything perfectly fine and then suddenly you had an appointment or something happen and then put on bedrest? Or was it a gradual thing that you were getting the hunch that it would be coming?

Just curious so that I can keep a look out!

I was 26 weeks when I was put on modified bed rest with funneling, and then at 30 weeks my OB ordered strict bed rest (bathroom and shower privileges only) due to 50% thinning out and gestational diabetes. Try not to worry too much ahead of time, you may end up with a perfectly fine pregnancy and not needing any bed rest at all!

I wasn't put on bed rest until I had bleeding at 29 weeks 3 days. I was feeling really really run down though at least a couple of weeks before that time though...

Friday the 13th of June @ 24 weeks was the start of my bedrest. My cervix had shortened a lot. I was sent to L&D and they did a NST and I was contracting. I felt fine...didn't even know it.

Hey there, my bedrest was a complete shock. My doc had warned us that I would probably have to have some form of bedrest at 28 weeks, but when we went for our 24 week US my cervix had shortened from 4.2cm to 1.8 cm and I was put on bedrest right away. I'm currently in the hospital on bedrest until I get to 28 weeks, we hope maybe longer.

    Hello,

My bedrest began at 16 weeks (I am now at 29!!), but it was for a much different reason than most people who end up on bedrest. An ultrasound detected growth discordance, and because we are having identical girls, the docs were concerned. They recommended bedrest as a way to maximize nutrients reaching the placenta and therefore babies. I also go to the pool once a day for immersion therapy (stand in the water for about half an hour). This is supposed to improve blood flow and it feels great! I also drink 3 protein shakes a day! And it has worked! The doctors never expected us to make it this far!

I wouldn't be too concerned. Many moms of twins get by just fine with no bedrest!! Good luck!!

My bedrest started at 28 weeks after my cervix had gone from 5-2.5 in a week. Nothing had really changed as far as the amount of contractions. I stayed put until delivery at 37 weeks.

I was not on bedrest and was still working and feeling great and went to a routine appt. at 24w and was told I was dilated 2cm, and I was having contractions and my cervix was very short. That is when my bedrest began.

My bedrest started at 14 weeks with a Placenta Previa and also a blood clot in the uterus. I'm now at 20 weeks as of tomorrow and I'm on modified bed rest so I can at least move around the house some. I'm being checked by the high risk OB every 3 weeks.

    I hope your's is uneventful!!!

I was put on bed rest at 24 weeks after a routine ultrasound where it was discovered that my cervix had suddenly shortened to 2 cm. I made it to my scheduled C-section at 37w, and would have probably made it even longer.

when I was in my 4th month of pregnancy, my dr. told me that starting 5 months he will put me on bed rest because I am expecting twins.

But it all accelerated on 20 weeks when a morphologic scan showed that my cervix is shortened to 1.3 cm with funneling.

    Regards,

i was put on bedrest at 27 weeks - it was very sudden. i went in for a routine ultrasound only to discover my cervix had shortened from about 4cm to just under 2cm. the girls also started showing possible signs of TTTS at that ultrasound as well. it really threw me for a curve because up until then, the pregnancy had been going really, really well (not counting that i broke my foot at 24 weeks - but that wasn't really pregnancy related).

I was put on modified bedrest at 24 weeks because I was carrying multiples (conservative doctors) but at 29 weeks, 4 days i was put on strict bed rest because my cervix had shortened to 2.2 and then 4 days later (30 weeks 1 day) I was placed in the hospital for excessive protein in my urine.

I was put on bedrest at 17 weeks for a short cervix. We knew ahead of time that this could happen. I stayed on bedrest at home, with only 1 week spent in the hospital at week 21 for preeclampsia. It ended up being preeclampsia that made me deliver at 31w6d.

Good luck! Hopefully you won't have any bedrest at all!

    Hi there,
Hopefully you won't have anything to worry about. My pregnancy was great up until 23 weeks and 6 days. I had a peri appt and my cervix had dropped to 6 mm. I had been feeling 'funny' that week. More pressure in my lower abdomen...more 'braxton hicks'...I saw stars once. I thought it was just because I was getting bigger and my pregnancy was progressing. My best advice is don't ignore any changes or hunches that something is different. It's always better to get things checked out and be told everything is okay (even if you feel a bit foolish at times if you are wrong). good luck! Beth

I started having contractions at 24 weeks and went to L&D. I was in the hospital for a week and on bedrest and procardia and still having contractions from then on. Luckily they weren't effective contractions. I later developed pre-e at 32 weeks, spent another week in the hospital before the boys were born at 33 weeks. Just take it easy and keep in check with your doctors. My best advice is plan for the possibility, but don't dwell on it!

I was having BH contractions and I ahd to be on very limited walking so that my cevix didnt start to shorten or thin and drink 2 gallons of H20 to keep my uterus from becoming irritable!

I went on bedrest at 20 weeks when a routine ultrasound showed me 3cm dilated with bulging membranes. My pregnancy had been uneventful up until then.

I was put on bedrest at 29 1/2 weeks. It was suprise...it was also a suprise when I went into labor! I had been doing fine, starting to wear out and talking about stopping work. I had been doing great up til that point and all my cervix checks were fine. I never dialated, but I started to thin out. After 3 days in the hospital I was sent home with bedrest instructions. I can use the bathroom, shower and basically move from the couch to the bed or to the computer or the kitchen to eat, but that is about it. I also have relatives staying with me when my husband is working as per the doctor's orders I'm not supposed to be alone for long periods of time. It's tough, but it is best for my girls and I'm hoping to keep them in me a few weeks longer!
