How soon did you do something to your hair?

I was just wondering how soon after you had your twins, did you do something chemical related to your hair? I know I have heard things about the hormones in your system causing your hair to do things it isnt supposed to when you get a perm or a color. I am debating on either highlighting it or getting a slight body wave to it. I just am scared to do it if I am going to get weird results. Any thoughts would be great. Thanks!

I was pretty quick too, my girlfriend is a stylist and since I spent the final 5 weeks on strict bedrest (3 in hospital - two out) I was ready for some pampering. It makes you feel sooooo much better. Even sleep deprivation can be forgotten for a short period! :)

It was only partial highlights, but I think I had it done around 6 weeks post-partum.

I had mine colored when there were about 3 months - I had to do something about the gray ;)

I don't remember for sure, but I think it was fairly soon after. It came out fine. I think I actually had my hair highlighted when I was pregnant too...the high risk dr said it was ok after 12 weeks, so I did. No problems there either. My MIL is my beautician, so it makes things easy!

My girls were ELEVEN DAYS old, I had a cut and color! :icon_biggrin: My hair was nasty when I was pregnant so I couldn't wait to chop it off and get it back to one color. I too was on bedrest and was ithcing to go anywhere, even with the pain from the c-section.

As a hairstylist I must inform you that although colour soon after pregnancy is not a problem... permanent waves are, or can be. Due to the horemones in your body they are transfered to your hairshaft and the likelyhood of a perm 'taking' is slim. That is not to say that i have not had clients get e perm soon after giving birth and it didn't work entirely, but they relax fast and you will get a better overall look if you wait.

This advise extends to breast feeding mothers as well. When you get highlights (which I STRONGLY reccomend after a twin birth, or any birht for that matter, for selfasteem :good: ) the chemicals don't come in contact with your skin. Perms, however, are harsh and foul and sit on your skin for at LEAST 15 min. That gets transfered to your bloodstream and in turn your Bmilk. :(

I got a perm six months afterwards.
    It held well. No problems.

Thank you for your comments. I am thinking I will just do a cut and partial highlights. Just something to give me a lift and a new change. Ill stay away from the body wave and hope the highlights give me enough boost.

My babies are almost a year old & I just today colored my hair. But, that was mainly for $ reasons since my stylist is pretty spendy & I was scared to do it myself. But, I couldn't take the stray grays any longer!! Turned out pretty good, I think.
