how on earth do we get any cleaning done?

I tried cleaning my bathroom this morning; nothing major with cleaners, just a pick up of the stuff & wiping the counters down with wipes. And the kids were in the shower, in the soap, in the toilet, in the drawers.......AAAAHHH!! I just gave up & took them to their room to read some books.

Now they're down for naps & the race is on to get things cleaned up! (And yet I sit here.....go figure) Tomorrow dh has a BBQ that I don't really want to go to anyway & I'm seriously thinking of letting him take the kids so I can have the house to myself for the day & just clean.

I'm glad it's not just me! Sometimes I feel like why bother! I can clean and 5 minutes later it is a mess again! I need to clean this weekend. Good luck!!

Someone here on TS (I think) has something in their siggie that says "cleaning up after toddlers is like shoveling the walk during a snow storm" or something like that.

This is my biggest issue right now. When I have a chance to clean the kitchen/living/dining rooms - they are downstairs destroying the rec room. Then I clean the rec room and they are destroying upstairs. I clean the bathroom and they are taking their bedroom apart.

It never fails - as 1 room is being cleaned, the others are being messed up.

I wrote in my TS blog (*ahem* mindless plug) the other day how I was happy I got the kitchen spotless but as I was doing that, Connor pulled out all the shoes from the front closet and Mason pulled out all the tupperware from my kitchen cupboard. I just can't win

Needless to say, my house is constantly in a state of disarray and whenever it *is* clean, DH and I quickly call someone to come over and visit because it's not often that it's actually like that

Glad to hear it's not just me. This is the most frustrating thing to me at the moment (besides the constant whining). One thing I hate even more, DH can do it and they don't bother a thing while he's working. When I'm doing it, they are constantly in to something or bugging the crap out of me until I just give up. I feel guilty that he does most of the cleaning, especially since I'm SAHM, but hey, whatever it takes at this stage. I don't think he could do it either if he were home with them 24/7. I felt good yesterday because I was able to dust my furniture in the living room! While I was doing it though, the girls had gotten a roll of TP and papered their room and the hallway, oh well.

I just do the little things...I never really get to do a full on cleaning of any room. So I just do small things when I have a few minutes like dust (not in depth), vacuum, wet swiffer the kitchen floor, vacuum the steps, do a good cleaning of kitchen counters, spot clean the bathroom, clean the shower....I never do a whole room at once. THere is no time.
I pick MOndays and Fridays to do laundry and that's it. Sunday I iron. Everything else just gets done on a rotation.
The house isn't spotless but it's tolerable for me and I don't do well with unclean environments.

Your post sounds just like me and my cleaning situation here at home! You are so not the only one. I know there are days DH must come home and wonder what I've done all day! I do most of my picking up after they've gone to bed and I make the big kids clean their room and their bathroom. DH has to do the laundry b/c I never get to it. I'm lucky if my floors get swept everyday! I'm hoping once they play by themselves more that I'll be able to do more with the house! I don't know what I'll do if i ever have to sell this house! People will run away screaming b/c of it! GL!

You are definitely not alone. I can only do little things with my two.

The kitchen has been off limit w/our twins. I can spot-clean the kitchen the way I want, thankfully. We keep our 1st floor bathroom, den office, laundry room, our bedroom and guest bedroom all closed. They only have access to family room and their bedroom to play. We don't have a huge house or lot of furniture. If I wanted it to be really clean, DH take the kids out to the store. I do my laundry while they nap since they love trashing clothes after I fold them in the basket.

LOL! it's called a "cleaning lady"!! i had wanted one for years, b/c i could never get anything done around here, especially before the girls were in preschool. well i finally got one 7 months ago, but it was because i broke my back, not b/c i really WANTED one. but having her now...i don't think i will ever let her go! she comes once a week and it is great. our floors are always the first things to get trashed! we have tile and wood floors throughout (no carpet), and it still amazes me how dirty 2 kids can make them.

i do really think it's a really good investment...we are ALL happy and have more time to spend doing things together! i know not all families have the extra cash for the weekly expense, but we made it work. i really didn't have any other option.

    good luck!

I could have written this. I've chosen to pick my battles when it comes to cleaning and messy wins. What can ya' do...I'm not a neat freak. I hate "dirty" per se, but I don't mind messy. So I thank God for the Swiffer, Clorox wipes and vacuums. Maybe the first two aren't the best environmentally, but it's my only way right now. I'll be more "green" when they start being a little less tornado like.

Oh yeah, at that age it was pretty impossible. About 5 months ago we had a break through. They let me clean now, and just either watch without getting in the way or play in their room! Its a joyous time!

I don't get anything done either. It's so frustrating.
