Just wondering. We are 10 months and though we have no intention of stopping soon, I was wondering what the average age was to wean them off??

I would kind of like to continue on past 12 months, but only give it to them in their sippy as a drink with meals. Purely for the nutritional value is why I want to continue. I figure if women BF to 2 yrs, and there is formula out there for 9-24 months, why hurry them to quit (if not for the financial benefit) Ideallly I would like to see them just self-wean from formula on THEIR time-schedule, no one elses.

That was one reason I took them out of their daycare. They were trying to force cows milk at 12 months, and said that formula AFTER 12 months would earn them a write up from their inspectors.....

I might stop earlier though if someone can give me a good argument as to why. :p

we were done with formula by their 1st b-day. We started weaning them to whole milk around 11 months and 2 weeks.

We stopped at 12 mos. following the advice of our pediatrician. What does your doctor say about continuing with formula?

We were around 18 months I can't remember why, maybe our doctor suggest it

My girls HATED formula, it was a fight to get them to drink anything over 14-16 oz. They weaned themselves at 10.5-11 months. They were also weaned off their bottles at the same time. Personally, I think if they are eating well and getting nutritious meals there would be no need to continue formula. But to each their own. :)

We began to switch to milk at 13 mos ... did 3/4 formula to 1.4 milk for a month and then decreased. Took about 4 mos, with no problems.

I know Dr. Sears advocates delaying the start of cow's milk for both breastfed and formula-fed babies. If you want to continue, you'll find information on his site supporting that decision.

Our ped recommends 9 months, so 9 months it was!

M&T were 16 months because we had enough to use it that long and then the 3/4 and 1/4 decrease and transition took weeks.
A did not switch over to milk until just over 2. She would get a reaction, but when tested was not allergic to milk. The soy formula was less expensive and more moble for us on the go, so we kept her on it. At just after 2 we tryed again, she had no reaction, and off we went.

Mine were BF but between 9-12 months I started weaning and substituting formula twice a day. They were off of formula by 12 months, which is what my Ped recommended. They get milk now, except for am and pm, I still BF.

At 12 months, per the pedi's recommendation. Their nutrition after that time should mostly be coming from food.

we did until 13 mnts only because it took us a month to wean from soy formula to whole milk - we went slowly...I think the only reason to continue after 12 months is allergies or underweight babies...

We started to wean at 11 months they were allergic to soy and milk but had no big problem switching. They were on whole milk by their 1st birthday.

We got them on whole milk at 11 months for two reasons:

    a. they weren't eating many solids and the ped suggested that maybe the formula was too filling and to try regular milk since most of their nutrition by this time should be coming from food. He was right. Once we went to milk they did eat more.

    b. we were going on vacation in Europe for a month when they turned one and didn't want to drag that much formula with me. ;)

I think if you feel they need it and it makes you feel better, go for it. It can't hurt. :pardon:

We started cutting down on the formula and adding in more and more milk around 11 months and by 12 months, they were completely off formula. Thank goodness cause it was just too darn expensive!!!

We stopped at 12 1/2 months. Our pediatrician recommended 12 months but mine were sick, so we waited a few weeks.

Mine were off at 11months and 2 weeks. They haven't had their one year check-up yet. It's on the 28th, but they were one on the 3rd. They did fine and have had no problems. They are both really good eaters and I was getting low on formula,so I just switched them over.

We started subing 2 ounces of milk at 11 months, then the next week 2 more, etc. until the bottles were all milk by their first birthday.

12m. Mine were chubbies. I prolly should of went straight to 2%, but wanted to make sure they got the extra fat in the whole milk until 2.

Age 2 here. But my son Archer has a severe dairy allergy. So the nutritionist that I saw told me to keep them on the Soy formula until the age of 2 for the fat content. Soy milk and Rice milk were all too low fat so I didn't switch him until a little past 2. Now my daughter refuses soy milk (and regular milk) and gets her calcium from OJ fortified and Archer happily consumes Vanilla Soy Milk.

It won't do any harm to yours to keep them on a formula for a little longer. It's entirely up to you!
