How old were/are yours at 37lbs?

Both of my girls have something called Beckwith Wiedemann Syndrome. Its an overgrowth syndrome that has several characteristics which I won't take the room up to put in here. One of these characteristics is that they are pretty big kids (thank goodness height is usually also "overgrown", so that don't look overweight, just big). Well a nutrionist sees the girls once a month because of this. At last months visit Natalie finally started slowing down, she only gained 2 ounces, when her usual gain was always in the teen ounces, so I was really feeling good about this months visit. She finally started officially walking in December so we thought we'd see a slow down, as we did with Brooke when she started walking. This morning the nutrionist came and Natalie gained 1lb 8 ounces in 4 weeks, she's now 36lbs 12 ounces [IMG] We are off the charts for age, so our nutrionist doesn't even plot either one of the girls there, height for weight they're not off the charts, Natalie's very close though. Brooke doesn't seem to have as severe of the characteristics that Natalie has (she's currently 32lbs). Both girls are almost 37 inches tall! They are taller/bigger than most 3/4yr old kids we know! Good news is that according to all the great people on the message boards for their syndrome, the weight tends to plateau when they reach 9/10ish

So I'm just wondering how old are/were your kids at 37 lbs? I know I'm not supposed to compare and its not their fault that they're big and we follow our nutrionists guidelines - we don't feed them garbage (for god's sake they have to eat wheat pancakes & waffles with no syrup or butter - but they don't seem to mind, I just feel bad while I'm sitting there eating my buttermilk waffles with syrup - I'm such a bad parent!), but I want to know what I'm up against and how big they really are compared to other kids!

Sorry that turned into such a long post [IMG]

    Wow, very interesting!

Berkley has always been 'off the charts' she was 30lbs at her 1st birthday and was 37 lbs just after her 2nd birthday.
At 6 in one month, she's now 49" tall and 60lbs, about the size of a 7-8 yr old.

My boys will are 2 yrs 7 mos and are about 33 lbs now, I think they're about 90%.

I don't even know what a truly 'average' sized chld is anymore.

Forgive me, but I find your post very interesting. I have never hear of such a Syndrome. Facinating.

Anywho, you are right about being bigger then most 3/4 year olds. My girls are going to be 4 in amrch and while I don't know their exact height and weight now, I would guess them to be about 35-37 pounds and about the same for height. When they were 3 yrs. old exactly they were 33 pounds and 31-32 inches tall if I recall correctly. Hope that helps.

[IMG] Don't sweat it. It's their charactor that matters most. I would imagine that you are a great mom!! They will be better off for the good nutrition.

My twin boys just turned three, and my bigger twin is 37lbs and 39 1/2 inches. He is about 90% for both height and weight for his age.

My son was 28 lbs at his 9 month check up-he'll be 1 yr on March 11th and I have a feeling he's gained at least 1 lb or 2 since then [IMG]He's just a BIG boy! My daughter is not far behind- she was 26 lbs at her 9 month check but compared to her brother feels like a little thing! The only thing that is difficult about it is carrying him around-it kills my back. The ped says he's in the 95% for everything and should slow down when he starts walking, Until then, he's just bigger than almost any baby I know, except for my neighbor's daughter, who was 30 lbs at her 1 yr check! Neither my DH or I are heavy, but my DH is very tall-maybe that has somethiing to do w/ it. All of us eat very healthy-no fast food and not alot of junk, so I am not concerned nutrition wise. I also have a 10 year old DD who is so tall and thin that I have to buy her slim jeans/pants. She is a great eater but skinny as anything-how ironic is that! I think your two will level out-not to worry.

Wow I have never heard of that. Gregory was always big, tall and skinny. He was 28 pounds at 18 months, but is only 34 pounds at 3 yrs 2 months. Josh is 22 months and now 33 pounds! I cannot believe it! [IMG] His twin, Zach is 31 pounds. Grgeory did not break 30 pounds until he was 2.5.

My son is three and weighs 35 lbs. He is 39 1/2" tall. He's always been high, if not off, the charts for height but right in the middle for weight.

We have a two year old girl at church who is about this weight...she's really tall too... As far as I know she has no syndrome...just big genetics... She's as tall as my three and a half year old, and weighs more...

Some would probably look at my dh and think that's where she gets her weight from, he could definately stand to lose a couple of lbs. Just so that everyone realizes that weight/height aren't the only things that sort of makes kids with this syndrome stand apart. The overgrowth part of the syndrome also affects their organs and body parts. Natalie was born with a very large tongue (she never could close her mouth - ever!). We had it surgically reduced last year by a surgeon who specializes in that type of surgery, its still really thick but she's doing much better now, can close her mouth, eat with no problems. Brooke's tongue is long but not thick, so we haven't done any surgical intervention for her. Although the girls are not affected in this way, some of the kids have hemihypertrophy - i.e. one leg is longer than the other, one side of the face is bigger/longer than the other. Natalie was also born with very low glucose at birth (another part of the syndrome) which led to other complications and a 6 week nicu stay.

Of the parts of the syndrome that are the scariest, the girls are at a higher risk of cancer. There is an agressive screening protocol, blood work every 6 weeks until they are 4 and abdominal ultrasounds every 3 months until they are 9. We've been cancer free so far [IMG]

Just wanted to add this, so I don't give the impression that the syndrome is just weight/height related. Oh and the syndrome is 1 in 14,000 births.

Thanks for all of your responses!!!!

Hi, I just wanted to tell you that one of the boys is currently being tested for Beckwith Wiedemann Syndrome. (if it's positive, then I'm sure the other will be tested also)

Both of my boys are - and have been- off the charts for weight and Boyd recently for height.

They were last measured at a current dr's appt Boyd weighed 42 pounds and Brody was 39/40. This is off the chart for Boyd and 97% for Brody - they're 2 yrs 9 months.

As for height Boyd was 41/42" and that's off the chart and Brody was 37/38" and he was in the 80%

They have both been at that range of weight for approx 6 months. I don't exactly recall when they were 37# though. Maybe right around 2?

I can tell you though, that Brody (the one being tested, on the right in the picture) was 20 pounds at 5 months! And Boyd caught up at 6 months! LOL

Nathan is right about there now, where William has just barely broke the 30lb mark. Both are around 38in tall. That makes William around the 97% for height and 2% for weight according to the WIC lady, where Nathan is 97% height and around 84%.
