How often should I see my OB?

I have an experienced OB that I like, but I don't seem to be monitored closely. I get a quick peek with a portable u/s machine (and we can barely see them or heartbeats). I have anterior placentas so the doppler is pretty much useless right now.

I know right now it's pretty early, but I asked about seeing a Peri eventually and she said that they'll do a cervical measurement check at my big u/s at the end of the month and then decide from there how often I need to be seen or if I need a Peri too. That's all well and good and my measurement will hopefully be good at 18w5d along. What worries me is that she'll say I don't need to be seen for another four weeks or so. Alot can happen at that stage in four weeks!

I know that starting in the early 20's, it is possible for things to start changing in there (cervical dialation/funneling or contractions) w/o knowing it. I just don't want her being so laid back that she doesn't take the twin pg risks as serious as they can be.

How often did you see your OB/Peri? If I have to I will insist on being monitored by a Peri as well.

    Thanks in advance!

My doctor told me yes twins are high risk, but not to worry until there was a reason to worry. My visit sched. was like this... Normal 4 week OB check ups untill 24 weeks then every 2 weeks till 30 then every week till the end. I got an ultrasound in the beginning -6 weeks, then one a month from that point on and at about 28 weeks we started ultrasounds every 2 weeks. I have not seen a Peri. I have had a very non-eventful pregnancy and I have been very comfortable with my monitoring and my OB's. It sounds like you are on pretty much the same plan- hope that make you feel a little better. :)

I was going to be seen every 3 weeks, and starting at 24 weeks every 2. But I ended up being seen pretty much weekly (or daily once hospital bedrest started) because of my cervix issues. I saw just a peri.

Your cervix should be measured starting in the second trimester. If there is an issue, the earlier it is caught, the better.

I saw my RE (fertility specialist) until 13 weeks. Then I had my first appointment with my Peri (they just sent me directly to Peri rather than OB) at 15 weeks. They did a quick ultrasound to make sure all was well and went over my history and what they expected and what their plans were. I have to go back at 18 weeks for the Level 2 Scan and I also will start cervical length measurements at that time as well as weekly Progesterone shots to help with my high pre-term labor risk. He said that depending on what that 18 week appointment shows I will be starting appointments every 2 weeks or every week. So definitely not every 4 weeks. I would be a bit worried after 20 weeks to still be going every 4 weeks with twins but I guess if you're low risk maybe it's ok?? I would think the appt at 18 wk 5 days should be ok with the cervical length measurement but I'd want that measured at least every 2 weeks. If you're not comfortable I'd switch OB's or look into seeing a Peri instead or as well as your current OB.

I am having mono/di twins which may mke my situation different but I still see my OB who conferences weekly with her team of perinatalogist on all of the high-risk pt.'s that she sees. A peri also reviews my u/s films and writes up the reports. I was seen every 3 weeks from the beginning (I didn't go in until 10 weeks) and have a level 2 scan every 4 weeks where they visualize my cervix. At 20 weeks I started going every 2 weeks. The OB does a fluid and heartbeat check at every appt. and occasionally measures my uterus (which doesn't really need to be done). The most important thing though is that she sits and talks with me and answers all of my questions so I never leave feeling rushed or like I still have concerns that I was unable to verbalize. I made it clear in the first trimester that I was very nervous about TTTS and I was wondering if I should go and see a peri because I had so many questions/concerns. She told me she would refered me but we had a long talk and everything has been great from the beginning. Just be honest about your concerns and feelings and if your OB doesn't take them seriously or brushes them off then maybe you want to find another doctor. You are going to be having a lot of interaction with this person in the next year so you want to make sure you are comfortable with their level of care :D

I see my OB every 4 weeks and get an ultrasound with Peri every 4 weeks so long as everything looks good (started at 15 weeks, before that I had u/s every 2 weeks due to some complications with sac sizes). I'm seen by someone (either OB or at Peri) every 2 weeks. They only do the cervix measurements at the Peri with the u/s, but my OB does a manual check every time I see her. Around 30 weeks, I think, they'll start doing u/s every 1-2 weeks depending on how things look.

I saw my OB every 2 weeks for the whole pregnancy (one week was cervix measurements & the next was ultrasound).
I did have a placenta previa, so I am not sure if that had anything to do with it, but she said that with multiples she prefers to see her patients every 2 weeks. I went to every week at the end though ~

for me, my peri once a month before 24 weeks. I saw just my peri and no OB, since that is just duplication.

I think you are fine unless there is a speicific problem.
I really do think there is something such as overmonitoring.

You will be in there every week soon enough.

After 20 weeks I've been seeing my OB every 2 weeks. At 30 weeks he'll bump it to once a week.

I saw my OB every 2 weeks. I did not have any reason to see a peri until I was admitted to the hospital on bedrest, and then I saw a peri everyday.
