My doctor started examining me when I was 29 weeks and she said she will be examining me every week for now on. I didn't think it was good to be poking around that much. I don't know if it is because she has me on terbutaline due to PTL at 30 weeks. I was having contractions every 2-3 minutes and I didn't even know it plus my cervix started to open a little. She did mention to me at my visit on Tuesday if I have any cervical changes she is going to put me in the hospital.

My OB didn't start checking my cervix until 34 weeks. I saw him again at 36 and 37 and got cervical exams as well. I did voice my concerns about him stirring up things but he said that he wouldn't do anything to trigger labor. So far, I'm 37+ weeks and I'm not dilated at all, so I guess I trust him.

I had not been examined at all under PTL started this week, they have checked me twice while being in the hospital. Before this they would use US to determine status of the cervix. I find it so amazing that there is such a large difference in standard of care from one doc to another. I agree with you though, I didn't think they wanted to be poking around and stirring up trouble. Good luck!

I only had T/V u/s to check my cervix up until 35 weeks, with the exception of one trip to L/D where they did do a manual check along with the FFN. I was told the less poking and prodding the better!

My OB checked my cervix at every single visit, starting at 28 weeks. I had some spotting after one visit, so she was more gentle (hmmm....TMI?) the next time.

i have my csection scheduled in 10 days, and was never checked by T/V/U/S or manually--just regular ultrasound :D which i'm pretty glad for....but maybe it's because i have a cerclage and the less you move stuff the better, as others have said...

I have been having cervical checks at every visit with my peri since i started there at 14 weeks. I've never had any issues with bleeding, etc. I've also had numerous checks with the horrible speculum when i've gone to labor and deliver for contractions. blech!

i have t/v u/s every 4 weeks. I don't know what it will be like next week when I go for my 30 week exam.

I've had internals every visit and sometimes I would spot a little (more towards the end). I still made it until 38w2d (scheduled induction) and was dialated 2 cm (up to 4 1/2) from week 32 onwards ... so as long as they do it right, it shouldn't cause any problems.

I am still on every two week visits, at least for the time being. However, my doctor checks my cervix at every visit and has been doing this for a while. Nothing going on with the cervix and it has not caused any spotting, but sometimes is a little uncomfortable!

    Take care!
