How much weight did you gain while preg

Wondering if some of you twin moms can tell me how much weight you gained with the twin pregnancy? The docs never say anything about my weight... I hope I'm gaining enough. I have always been tall and skinny...was actually just starting to get some shape to me over this past year. I want to say I started out at 135 pounds when I got pregnant. But it's kinda hard to tell because I had a bunch of swelling from hyperstimulation thru IVF. Today they wrote down that I weigh 156...and I'm 27 weeks tomorrow. Is this normal? I've been on bedrest forever it seems. Even before treating me for contractions in Dec and pulling me out of work to lay in bed... I had been resting a ton since getting pregnant...IVF complications, swollen ovaries, and a marginal placenta. So I have to take into consideration that my muscles have been withering away...lessening my weight. My legs are taking a beating.

    Thanks for your advice!

I gained 40# as of the week before delivery, but I must have gained at least 10# more in fluid by the time I delivered, being on bedrest and preparing for delivery. I lost most if it within 3 weeks, and am now 15# below where I started (I was on the heavy side to start with, and I am breastfeeding the twins).

My coworker started at 140 and gained 70# with her twins. She was on bedrest from about week 23 and delivered at 35 or 36 weeks, and I know her OB wasn't concerned about that weight gain. MOst of it was fluid and disappeared by the time the babies were a month old. (She also breastfed her twins).

I can't remember what the range of weight gain recommendations is, but I think as long as the twins are growing at a good rate and you eat when hungry, you're doing well.
Good luck! Sounds like you're doing great! :D

I delivered at 28 weeks 1 day and gained 75lbs during my pregnancy!! I don't know that it was ideal, but my Dr's never said anything. I'm sure the 4 weeks on bedrest didn't help much. Thankfully, I was able to shed it pretty quickly post partum.

I gained somewhere around 30-40 pounds I think. I was around 125 pounds pre-pregnancy and honestly can't remember my weight right before they were born. I felt huge either way. I only made it to 29 weeks so who knows how much I would have gained...
I think if you doctor was concerned about weight gain he would say something. I have a coworker who is currently prego (with just one baby) and not too long ago she was saying her doctor said she needed to eat more (healthy stuff, lots of protein) because he was concerned about weight. On the other hand, another coworker's doctor told her to lay off the sugar and snacks because she was gaining too much. So they know how much is too little or too much. Are you making sure to eat healthy foods and extra calories? I think I remember reading you need around 300 extra calories per baby; someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
Sorry you are having such a rough time right now, hang in there!

i had put on about 40 lbs the last time i noted my weight, which was a couple of weeks before the girls were born. they were born at 34w1d. i haven't weighed myself since. i'm not planning on doing anything about it until the spring, so i figure what i don't know, can't hurt me! ;)

i think if you're concerned about it, don't wait for the docs to say something - ask them at your next appointment if they think you're gaining well. if nothing else, it will hopefully give you some peace of mind, which is very useful when you're trying to relax & grow some babies.

I'm 24 weeks today with g/b twins. I've gained a total of 9 lbs. I'm 5' tall though so..... My doctors don't really say anything. In the book I'm reading it states that I should gain about 40-50 lbs total. For healthy twins. I don't know.... I was on bedrest for the first trimester. I also did IVF and gained 12 lbs alone with hyperstimulation.... :-( But, I lost that in the first few weeks of pregnancy. As long as you're eating healthy and getting your protein I think that's what is most important... :woohoo:

Well I"m not officially done yet, I'm 35 wks and as of today, up 27 lbs. I'm very overweight and my ob still predicted a 40-50 lb weight gain. But he did comment last week he's very pleased with my weight gain, as I said I'm overweight and dont' really need to gain quite that much.

Definetly ask if you are concerned, it can't hurt to know! :)

I went to 36 w 2d, I gained 50 (lost all but 8 by my 6 w pp appointment) BUT my hips didnt go back in place until the twins were 7 m... just happened one random weekend... i had not lost any more weight and all of a sudden none of my 6 fit (looked like i was wearing my DH pants)

The funny thing is I gained 80 w/ my singleton, and didn’t lose the last 30 of that until he was in preschool and I was able to hit the gym regularly… and I was 10 years younger… go figure :pardon: …

I am 35w4d today and have gained around 36lbs so far. I am 5'4" and always been skinny. Prepregnancy I was 116, and after IVF I weighed 125. My babies are measuring 5lbs 4oz each also.

I gained 65 pounds when all was said and done, but I did take on excess water weight swelling at the end due to pre-e. GL with your pregnancy.

I started out by losing ten pounds and I only started to gain weight at six or seven months pregnant after suffering morning sickness all day long. I think I gained a total of 30 pounds in total and I ended up losing 50 pounds when I gave birth and shortly thereafter. I am now in the process of trying to gain back some weight. Everyone reacts differently to pregnancy but my doctor continually reassured me that the babies will get what they need and mine certainly did. They sucked everything good out of me so try to make sure you are taking a good pre-natal vitamin and getting enough iron. I was severly anemic when I gave birth and I ended up in the hospital for nearly two months post-partum from complications due to the anemia. I hope it all goes well for you.

I gained 60 lbs total and my DR never said anything other than everything looked perfect and we had good sized babies. I know some people only gain 20-30 lbs total and have good size babies as well. Take care and get plenty of rest. :)

I think you've gained enough. I was 125 when I got pregnant and was put on bedrest at week 17. I delivered just before week 32 and gained about 30 lbs. I put the most on in the last couple of weeks, so I definitely wouldn't worry that you haven't gained enough.

I gained 63 lbs and delivered at 33 weeks exactly. I weighed 113 before I got pregnant and was put on bedrest at 24 weeks. I started gaining immediately and it was a steady pace till the end though I did gain a lot the first couple weeks of bedrest :).

I gained 55lbs (but I had major swelling starting around 28 weeks...not pre-e, but I was on diuretics it was so bad) and delivered at 36 weeks with 4 weeks of bedrest. The boys were both 5lbs 14oz.

Note: I gained 55lbs with baby girl too (swelling and gestational diabetes this time)...go figure!

I weighed 117lbs before I got pg and I gained 55lbs in total. I was HUGE! I delivered at 37.3wks.

I had the book by Dr Barbara Luke: expecting multiples and it was very good. I only used it for info but it was very useful.

I gained 64lbs. It was really hot in July and I gained 7lbs in just one week at the end. I'm sure a lot of that was fluid but still....yikes!

I gained 34lbs, and then 2 weeks before I delivered (delivered at 38 weeks) I gained another 16lbs in fluid! I was like a fish bowl. Thankfully by my 6 week appt I had lost all of it and then some.

I gained about 75 lbs and delivered at 34 weeks 2 days. I also gained some weight from IVF hormones, so about 10 lbs was from that process. I had pre-eclampsia and was on bedrest from 27 weeks until delivery, so I retained a ton of water. I've lost 45 lbs so far 7 weeks postpartum.

I was average weight - 5'7 and 140. I gained 23 pounds, delivered at 38.2 weeks and the babies were 6lbs 1oz and 6lbs 5oz. I lost it all before I left the hospital. Everyone is different and the range of healthy is huge. Don't stress about it, the babies will get what they need from you and as long as you eat healthy there's no good/bad weight gain.

I gained 50 pounds and delivered at 37 weeks. I had actually lost 4 pounds towards the end because I developed gallstones.

I think I am the odd one....I didn't gain any weight just lost it. I lost 14lbs at the beginning due to being extremely sick (horrible morning sickness that lasted my entire pg) and was 7lbs under my pre-pg weight when I delievered at 33 wks 4 days. My babies weighed 3lbs 11oz and 4lbs 1oz. A week after my c-section I was 32lbs less than I was pre-pg.
