Hello all - just wondering how much weight you gained in the 1st trimester? I'm 11 weeks now and have already gained 6 pounds! My OB said that was a little bit too much for the 1st trimester and that I should have only gained about 3 pounds. I thought with twins you should gain a little more. I haven't been eating mroe than usual, but I haven't been as strict in my choices as I normally am. AND, I'm not excercising b/c I was told not to (for other reasons) until after the 1st trimester. I'm of average weight and build normally, but tend to gain weight easily when not excercising and not following a strict diet of 1,200 calories per day.

So anyway I was just wondering what everyone else gained their first trimester? I'm trying desperately not to gain another pound this week!!

Due to a concerted weight gain effort, I gained 10 pounds by 11 weeks and 13 pounds by the end of the first trimester (14 weeks). I did start off underweight, but my OB was very happy to see my weight gain. I'm pretty surprised yours discouraged you about it. I would ignore him - they say with twins that early weight gain is very important.

Hi! Well, with my 1st pregnancy I gained 70 pounds!!! I was HUGE! I was gaining weight like CRAZZY!! It took me about a year to lose all that baby weight!!

I'm now 23 weeks and I gained about 13 pounds so far. Im pretty shocked myself! I was expecting to gain weight twice as more-- because of the twin thing ya know? But hang in there. It will be all worth it!!!

I was so sick during the first trimester that I lost about 15 pounds. I am now about 10 pounds over my pre-pregnancy weight.

I don't remember, but it was probably way to much. I didn't have morning sickness. I just kept eating to stay awake at work! I don't think I have ever not been on a diet and have a problem trying to eat "normally".

I gained 5 pounds. (I am 15 weeks now and I go to the Dr next week.) I exercise 3 to 4 times a week of high intensity work. I eat a lot, but I filled my extra food needs with veggies and fruit. I feel good and well rested.

However, this is my first pregnancy and I have not had any morning sickness.

    Everyone is different,
    Jenn

this was me also....lost 1 pound the first 14 weeks than gained like 50 lbs from 14 weeks to 37 weeks. Being at home from 24 weeks helped me put on a lot.

According to my doctor (I see a high risk doctor in Fairfax because I wan't impressed with my ONGYN's attitude that this wasn't any different from a singleton) - you are doing GREAT!

I started very normal weight (BMI of 22) and my doctor wanted me to gain 20lbs by 20 weeks. I had only gained about 5 or 6lbs at around 12 weeks, but then I decided to splurge and eat whatever I felt like, and now I'm right on target. There's a book by Dr. Barbara Luke "When youre expecting twins, triplets, or quads" that has some great advice and breakdowns of weight gain. I have found it very helpful not only for the weight gain information, but it's filled with lots of other great information (including recipes!) for new twin moms like us.

I lost 15 lbs in my first trimester and have now gained it back plus 5 more. I'm in the hospital on bed rest and they bring me food constantly...I feel like all I do is eat! LOL

    Sounds like you're doing fine!

My peri told me to gain as much as possible during the first tri because later on there just won't be that much room for food. I gained about 10 pounds. Since the first tri my appetite has diminished a bit, and I've had increased nausea, so I'm glad I was able to put on the weight early.

None until 14 weeks. I gained 43 lbs in total in which 8lbs in the last week (fluids, I had one really swollen leg). The babies were 15 1/2lbs together and I left the hospital at pre-pregnancy weight, 160lbs. I am now 6-7 below just as at my 6 weeks post partum.

I was significantly overweight when I got pregnant.
I lost 14 pounds the first trimester due to the flu and morning sickness.
I gained about half of it back in the second trimester.
In the third trimester, I gained the rest of it back.
I ended up dehydrated and at L&D for an IV to rehydrate. I gained 10 pounds in that week alone, was extremely swollen, and ended up 8 pounds over pre-pregnancy weight when I delievered.

Then 3 weeks after delivery I was 49 pounds below my pre-pregnancy weight, so I'd lost 57 pounds total.
I figure, in my logic, had I been of average size to begin with, I probably would have gained the 57 pounds in my pregnancy.
My logic might be flawed, but it sounds better than "I gained 8 pounds and delivered 12.5 lbs between my two babies".

I believe by week 11 I had gained 11 lbs. By the 27th week I had gained 44 lbs. And when I delivered at 38 weeks I had gained 72 lbs!!

I went from 118 lbs to 190 lbs!! [hah, and still have 10 lbs to lose.. dag nabbin twin skin]

Honestly, don't worry about how much weight you gain.. As long as the doc says you're good and your babies are healthy - you're body knows what to do! ^_^
