    Hi all!

I have been gaining weight like crazy and I don't feel I'm eating all that much normal than usual... I've just added in a few (healthy) snacks and more milk to my diet... I don't workout now (whereas I used to regularly before pregnancy) so I'm wondering if that's what the issue is... or if my weight gain is normal?

So far at 17 weeks I've gained 20lbs! Did anyone else this much weight so soon?? I'm worried i"m going to balloon up to 80lbs or something. I'm typically of average weight - not thin, not overweight- just normal. Now I feel like a house!!!

I don't remember anymore how much I gained exactly, but if you read Dr. Luke's book (it's been mentioned in the forum before), you can be proud of yourself! She holds that the more you gain in the beginning, the better the chances to keep the babies in for a long time. So keep gaining! That being said, I do walk around the house humming the Beatles' tune "I am a walrus"...

I had only gained I think 10 lbs by then or so, but I am very overweight and don't need to be gaining quite as much! ;)

I think it sounds like you are doing just fine!! Remember it's all for a good cause!!

I was about to say the same thing about Dr. Luke's book. :)
I don't remember how much I'd gained by my 16w appt--I think either 10 or 12 lbs? (I had only gained 2 by 12w) but I did gain 20lbs by 20 weeks which Dr. Luke recommends. I think she actually encourages 24 by 20 weeks, but 20 is a good goal. Especially if the food you're eating is quality and not just junk, it sounds like you're gaining at a healthy pace for a twin pregnancy.

I remember there being a couple appointments in a row early on where I gained 6 lbs at a time! I was small, probably underweight to begin with. I used to have trouble gaining weight, so I was surprised how easy it was when I was pregnant and also worried I was gaining too much too fast. I think I was around 20 lbs at 20 weeks. I gained 57 lbs total, but only had 10 lbs to go after I got home from the hospital. So don't worry, just eat and take care of the babies and you'll be fine.

hi.. from my personal experience, dont freak out. the same thing happened to me. i am 30 1/2 wks along right now, but i got pregnant and lost weight in the first month i was 125, by the end of the third month i was 139, end of the fourth i was 147, then i slowly gained up to 156 until i got to be in the 6th month, now i am steadily gaining again... and fast. i am up to 167 with 2 1/2 months to go---hopefully-- my little girls want to come out and meet everyone :)

Im 17 weeks also and I havent put on as much weight as I think I should have, but I am overweight to begin with (not like a few pounds heavy, more like 50 lbs) and so far i have put on a whole 4 pounds. They havent said anything to me so I assume that I am okay. Prior to knowing that it was twins the doctor asked how much weight I was going to put on and I said 12 pounds and he said try more like 11 and your not going trick or treating this year. When he confirmed twins he just told me to eat healthy and not to worry about how much I put on. Eat when you need to stop when your full and that is what I have been doing. I eat constantly, my belly is getting huge.

It was at 17 weeks they discovered the second baby for me. I had gained ten pounds in four weeks and measured 22 weeks when my doctor ordered an ultrasound immediately. I think I had gained 20 pounds by then. I ended up gaining 69 pounds. My doctor was not that concerned since I gained between 50 and 55 pounds with my singletons. Everyone is different. Try not to worry. ;)

None until 14 weeks, and I think 3 more at 17 weeks. I was neither under or overweight. I gained 43 lbs in total and delivered 15 1/2 lbs of baby, so not bad at all. I left the hospital at pre-pregnancy weight (48 hours later) and am now 6-7 under (since 6 weeks pp).

At that time I only gained 1 pound. At the end I finally gained only 23 pounds.

I've only gained 5 and a half pounds so far. As long as my doctor thinks that the twins are good I will try not to worry. I began this pregnancy overweight so I don't want to gain too much.

I too followed Dr. Lukes's book and tried very hard to gain 24 by 24 weeks, which I just made. I was only 109 to start (5'1" small frame) so this was hard for me. I gained 42 lbs total at 35 weeks.

I think your weight gain sounds perfect!
