I hear so many different things that at one of my apts I asked this question.

I was told that there really isn't a magic number. 8-8oz glasses is only a rough guess for most people, some need more some don't. First, if you are thirsty, then you are probably already a bit dehydtrated so try and not even get there. And Your pee should be very light colored, almost like hay. Also, at my u/s I always remember to ask how the fluid around the babies is looking (this is ONE way of making sure they are getting enough). I was also told that you don't always have to just count water. Water is the best and should be high up there, but things like milk or a natural fruit smoothy can also count toward a daily intake when you are pregnant as they are still a "fluid" but may also be helping you reach your daily calorie intake.

A couple of things that help me "get it in" are: I keep water bottles in the car (I have always done this for me and my kids), it helps on those days out to make sure you remember. I had a friend who used little rocks on her window seal. She would move one over everytime she finished a glass just so she could keep track. At the end of the day sometimes it's hard to remember if you had one glass or half a dozen. Everytime I sit down for a rest I make sure there is always a glass of water in my hands and Im not done resting tell the glass in empty. I also try and avoid sharing my water with my kids now. It's something I usually do as I want them drinking water too, however, now I need to make sure Im actually drinking all the water I pore and not handing it all out.

    Happy Drinking!

I credit lots of fluids for my wonderful pregnancy. For most of the pregnancy I was drinking 12-16 glasses (8oz) of liquid per day (mostly water but some OJ and I'll admit to a can of gingerale here and there :) That's a gallon of liquid every day.

my OB said technically the recommendation is for 8 glasses per day but the twin specific books I read said to way up your fluid intake. Dehydration is one of the causes of uterine irritability which can lead to early labor. Oddly, I wasn't peeing as much as you would think for drinking that much, I really believed my body needed that much water to support the placentas/fluids/and babies.

    good luck and DRINK UP!

Edit: Oh, I forgot to mention, LOTS OF MILK (thank you PP), I drank 6 8oz glasses of milk per day for protein!

I have no idea how much I'm drinking... it's a lot though. I have a mug of ice water that I sip on all day long and then every time I go to the bathroom, after I wash my hands I chug down a big glass of water.

Oh, btw, since I've been drinking so much water, I have the BEST skin. My face looks almost airbrushed and I don't have the winter itchies. :good:

I drink over a gallon a day. Every night I fill up the jug and put it in the fridge so it'll be cold by the next morning. I pee constantly, but they comment on the color--it's literally almost clear :)

I was one that wasn't drinking enough water. I would drink it but I didn't keep track of how much that I would drink or really worry about it. Well then out of the blue 2 weeks ago, I started having Braxton-Hix contractions, several an hour, and when I went up to L&D. Found out I was only dehydrated and since the uterus is a muscle it requires water. The paper that I got sent home with said to increase my fluids to 10-12, 8 oz glasses of fluids a day.
So i try to manage at least 3 bottles of water and will fill in the other with something "NON" caffinated. But since then I have been pretty good about drinking it, but some days it is still really hard to get it all in, esp cuz i Hate water for some reason now :p

I forgot to mention about the dehydration, too. When I was pg with DS I started having contrax at 19 wks. When I called after hours they said to drink more water but there was really nothing more they could do until I was 20wks. I was so afraid of losing him (and subsequent babies) to dehydration that I have downed it ever since. I do notice a difference if I don't manage to get a sufficient amount in.

I *try* to drink 4 bottles of water a day. I drink a lot of milk and usually a cup of decaf tea so I get enough liquid. I can tell the difference if I don't get enough water though, I feel really yucky!

I'm not actually keeping track, I drink lots tho, I feel like I'm always peeing!

I can tell the days I don't drink enough, I get more bh. I chug a glass or more of water when I start having bh's and that usually calms then down pretty fast, then I know I just haven't been drinking enough.

I drank probably a gallon a day before pregnant and have increased that by at least 25% since being pregnant. I'm thirsty a lot and I love my cold water from my Brita pitcher ;) so for me it's pretty easy to get it all in. Plus I'm drinking 2-3 glasses of milk (vanilla soymilk) a day, maybe once of juice and, now that it's cold, a cup or two of pregnancy-safe tea. I also feel yucky when I get dehydrated so that keeps me motivated to keep drinking (even if I do have to pee all the time ... and I get a contraction every time I need to pee!).
