How much "warning" did you have before labor?

    Hi,

I hope you don't mind me poping in from the "expecting" side. I was wondering how much "warning" you had that you were going to go into labor (or have to have the babies) before it happened. I was just putting my DH's travle schedual into my calander, and realized that he's going to be gone a LOT in July and August -- which makes me nervous if the twins come early (as many of them do). I know if we thought it was close, he just wouldn't go -- but if we don't know at all in advance, well, then he might just not be there!

Thanks so much for your help!!

We don't mind you popping in one bit! Please come over for as many questions you have, we are glad to help since we have BTDT.

I didn't get to experience labor. I went to a scheduled Dr's appt. and during a u/s he noticed Baby B's cord was hanging down low, and had I gone into labor, if he came out first, it could have tore his cord and been fatal. So I had a c-section the next morning. He wanted to take them right then, but me and my mom had just eaten Mexican food. LOL

I went in for a regular appointment - was told that I had at least another week and 6 hours later my water broke. I called the drs office and told them and I don't think that they believed me. They thought I was just leaking urine or something like that. I told them that if I was leaking urine like the way I was I had a bigger problem then having babies!! So I drove myself over to the drs office. They told me that yes my water had broken (thanks scoop!) and to walk on over to check myself into the hospital (which is one building over from their office). My water broke at 4 pm, I had my c-section at 7 and the babies were born at 7:36 and 7:37.

So I guess I would say that I had NO warning!

I had more "fluids" leaking for a couple of days. Went to make sure that they weren't amiotic fluids in am. was told they weren't and that I was 2cm dialated. they gave me till the end of the week - 4 days- before they thought babies would arrive. at about 11pm started having cramps, at 4am water broke, 6:30 Nefeli was born and Iris was born 6:35am! they were born at 40 weeks to the day.
I don't think you can really predict how much warning you have though. babies will arrive when they are ready, hope your dh is there when they decide to arrive.

I had gone for an ultrasound on the Wed as my DS was breech and we were confirming it and had an appt the next with the dr for to schedule a C-section. What I did not know was all day/nite Wed I was in back labor and when I got up to go to work on Thurs morning my water broke and we went off to the hospital to have an Emergency c-section. We were 34w and 3days when this happened so a little bit of a sign but of course it was not one I recognized until the water broke.

Honestly, it is just so different for everyone. I didn't know I was even in labor. I was walking around Wal-Mart the day before I had my c-section. I was actually scheduled to have one on April 21 (2006) but ended up having my girls on the 19th. I know I didn't feel very well the night after my Wal-Mart outting. I actually felt like I was having an IBS attack (irritable bowel syndrome). Kind of like horrible gas cramps. The next day (the 19th) I didn't feel better and was feeling sicker. Like I couldn't get out of bed, like I was going to have diarreah type cramps (sorry if tmi) so I called the ped and they said to go get myself checked out at the hospital and 3 hours later my girls came into this world. I apparently was in beginning labor and my cervix was still pretty much closed but I was 100% effaced so they said I was having them that night. Best of luck to you and I hope everything goes well and your dh is able to be there when your twins are born.

Hate to say it, but we had NO warning. I honestly had no clue I was in labor. I just thought it was back pains. We actually had friends over for dinner that night!! We acutally had to get them to leave cause they pushed us to go to the hospital cause the pain was getting worse and worse. My pain started about 1 in the afternoon, we went to the hospital at 7 pm (I was already a 3), I had the boys at 5:45 am. Since this was my first pregnancy, I had no idea what to expect. Might have helped if my mom told me that SHE had back labor with me!!! I was expecting my labor to be in my belly......NOPE! Good luck! And remember with twins.....ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!!
