Hi there...I started my boys with rice cereal last week. Started with 1 Tbsp. They are taking it quite well. I am planning to start them on sweet potatoes this Friday. How much sweet potato should I feed them?

Also, I am feeding them solids during their 11 am feeding. When do you go from once a day solids to two times a day?

    TIA!!!

I would plan to split a container of stage 1's with them for the time being. We didnt go to 2 meals a day until 6 months and then added lunch at 9 months.

Mine started solids three weeks ago, a few days before they hit 5 months. I've been going by the gerber sheet that our pedi gave us. It recommends 1/4 container for the first 2 days of a new food, then 1/2 container, and then a full stage 1 container by the 4th and 5th days. Mine don't get to the full container yet though, half each is their limit for the time being.
We were told (pedi again) that they can go up to 2 meals a day after their 6 month appointment. I admit, I'm not looking forward to it all that much. Just one meal takes ages, and somehow they always manage to put their hands in their mouths, and it ends up all over their faces, with a little up their noses. Ahhh. Not loving the laundry.

Didn't start solids till 6 months. Yours are only still very young - there's no rush! I would wait.

I still do one tablespoon of rice and half a container of fruit or veggie. I add formula to get to the right consistency. At first, I just did rice cereal for a couple of weeks and then added just a little fruit or veggie for them to taste it and added more each day. I found that if I gave them too much fruit or veggie, they didn't like it as much. They prefered the cereal. Now, they love the plain food. I started doing a plain fruit in the morning and rice/veggie at night. They are on 2 different formulas, so cereal is kind of a pain. I'm planning on stopping the cereal after our next pedi appt. if she says it's ok.

I would let them have as much sweet potatoes as they are willing to eat but no more than 1 container each. We didn't start a 2nd meal until way later than 4 months, I know that.

are the boys premi's so they are actually younger than 4 months? we did cereal only starting at 5 mo (4 corrected) for 1 month, as a result they eat all cereals great and can take foods quite thick. We didn't start real "food" until they were 6 months (5 corrected). studies show introducing too many foods younger than 4 months increases risk for allergies but do what your pedi says and what you feel comfortable with.

my girls will eat 4 tbls of veggies/fruit plus 2 tbls of cereal at a sitting. we added a second meal about 5 1/2 mo corrected.

I started solids at 6 months and added a second meal a month later.
