Just wondering how much TV you allow your LO's to watch each day. :)

I voted none, but technically mine do watch about 45min/wk, only when we drive home from swimming on the weekends and I need them to stay awake in the car.

Mine (including my 3 yr old) don't watch any. We only have basic cable ($9.99 a month) so we have limited channels - not much for anyone to watch.

They watch about 2-3 hours per day (usually Sesame Street and Noggin)...less then that if they are with me during the day, probably more then that if they are with my DH (who is a self admitted TV addict, he has to have the TV on).

Mine watch Sesame Street every day. I find that they actively sit and watch about half of it and then go about their playtime business during the other half. It gives me time to get showered and ready for the day. I love the DVR. I have it set to record Sesame Street so we can watch it whenever I decide it's time. This will change, however, when school starts in a couple of weeks. We'll be out the door to work/daycare by 7 a.m. and won't get home until about 5 p.m. That means there will be very little time for Sesame Street during the week and they will probably only get to watch on weekends if we are home.

ETA: They don't watch TV at daycare.

My boys watch much more tv than I care to admit. However, I watch it with them and we talk about it. We watch PBS and their favorite is Word World. Everything is on DVR so we watch 30 mins here and there but it adds up quickly. I do have to say that they know almost all of their letters now and the sounds they make. I can thank PBS for that (and www.starfall.com too)!

Generally on my watch it's no TV, but in the morning when they are with their Daddy, they watch 1 or 2 videos. They wonder around just as much as they watch, but it does keep them somewhat occupied.

well i voted 2-3 hrs because it's just in the evening after they get home from daycare until they go to bed. granted, i am enjoying the shows more than they are, but they will stop from their playing to come and dance and clap when some songs are on, but we watch a lot of noggin, my faves are yo gabba gabba, wonder pets, and backyardigans. wheeee!

I voted none because I don't see the point of showing them kids show. I watch some stuff on my computer during the day though and they sometimes get a glimpse of it, but I wouldn't watch cartoons or anything that might hold their interest.

Mine have always watched about 1 to 2 hours a day. :good: In the morning when they get up they watch an hour and then in the afternoon when they get up they watch about 30 minutes and while I'm cooking they usually will watch a show. Of course, there are days they watch more or less. ;) If they are sick there is usually more TV time or if it's been raining for a few days in a row (like when we had almost two weeks of rain :gah: ) then it will be on more. What are you gonna do, right?

Mine watch anywhere from 1-2 hours/day usually while I get meals ready or pack up before we leave the house...all dvr'ed shows like Sesame Street and Jack's Big Music Show. They love it, they giggle, dance, point at the characters and look at me and I explain what they are looking at. It'll hold their attention for awhile, and then they move on to play. As soon as they do, I turn on XM radio on the tv which is on all day at my house so most of the day (while we're at home and in the car) they are listening to all kinds of music, kids and my own. I also feel as twin parents it's just necessary sometimes! Okay a lot of the time!

I'm the bad mom!! 5+ hours

The kids play in the living room and Noggin is always on. They generally don't *watch* it though, they're much too busy with books and toys and stuff. But it's always on. And I'm sure they watch it whenever something catches their eye, and I know they stop and watch when Dora and the backyardigans comes on.

We always have the news on in the morning, but they rarely watch it. In the afternoon we put on noggin or animal planet or disney. They don't watch it much either, unless there is a "da" dog or "quack-quack' duck on the screen then they go crazy for a minute and ignore it again. They don't watch TV at daycare.

I said 1-2 hours. Some days more, some days less. They only watch Baby Einstein. They could care less about anything else that is on. I put it on to make them happy when they are whining and getting ready for a nap or bed or if I need to get something done around the house. They don't sit and watch the whole show. They play and look up every so often. I think they like the music more than anything. It is calming to them.

I've never turned on the TV for my boys. I don't watch almost any TV, so it's never on. Maybe the nanny has had it on occasionally, but really the only exposure they've had is when DH is watching golf in the basement while the boys play. They don't seem very interested, even when Tiger is winning... ;)

I have the weather channel on in the mornings when I am getting ready and they see that probably 2-3 mornings a week for a few minutes.
At daycare the tv is on during quiet time in the mornings and afternoons so they may see a few minutes here and there through the day but don't actually sit and watch anything because they are napping.
In the evenings I have the tv on, but it is on a music station so they are listening to something, but if they watch the screen all it shows is the names of the songs floating on a green and blue background.
That is the same for the weekends. Mostly we are busy outside or if we're inside we have on the music stations. I have never really put on any kids shows for them. They seem oblivious to the fact that the TV exsists so we don't really even try to get them to watch it.
I would say on a weekly basis they only see maybe an hour of tv.....unless it is raining and then the amount of time the tv is on jumps WAY up :)

That's how it is here too. They watch in the morning when they get up, then in the afternoon after they get up so I can make them something to eat. And then before they have dinner, so I can fix them something to eat.

Really all they watch is on DVDs in the van. So, on a daily basis, that would be less than 10 minutes on the way home, and then a little more on the weekends when we are running errands. If we go on a long trip, they will sometimes watch an hour or so until they fall asleep, but that's rare. We almost never watch at home (TV is in basement family room, and it's the least baby-proofed place in the house!)

I voted 2-3 hours but the tv is on all day and how much they "watch" I don't know. They play through most of it and we dance and sing to the On Demand Baby Boost stuff for at least an hour every day! It's so much fun and the fact that they can do all the motions for 2 or 3 of the episodes is awesome! We also watch the Baby signs video and we learn the signs together... The only show that mine actually sit down and watch is Yo Gabba Gabba, and we have to limit that

I just put Sesame Street on in the morning to occupy one while I get the other ready...nothing at daycare, and we don't watch anything until the girls go to sleep.

kiddos are 14 months and oblivious the tv even exsists. I don't watch much tv at all during the day and only allow my 6 yr old 1 hour a day.

I would say they average about 1 hour a day of TV (one episode of Blue's Clues and one episode of Barney). The TV is usually on more throughout the day, but they hardly ever pay attention to it unless a kids show is on.

Those are my favs too!!! :) Sofia also says "wheeeeee!"

Mine watch more than I would like. I usually put it on during breakfast- while I'm getting it ready so they don't scream. Same for lunch if they are super fussy. I try to turn it off while they are eating and usually have it on after when I am cleaning up the kitchen.

My little ones usually watch about an hour of TV a day, mostly in the evening after dinner. I try to limit screen time, but sometimes they watch a bit more on weekends. They really enjoy cartoons and kid-friendly shows, but sometimes we switch things up with channels like syfy when there’s something more family-friendly on. It’s all about finding a good balance and making sure they’re still getting plenty of active playtime. TV is a nice way for them to wind down, but we keep it in moderation.
