Hi all! Rach is a tad constipated. I have prune juice on hand, but can't recall how much is appropriate. A tsp?

you can try 2 tbsp of crushed pineapple. I don't know how much prune juice.

It's not medicine so there are no dosing restrictions. I can tell you that a teaspoon is not enough. I've used it and I suggest giving at least 3 or 4 ounces. You can dilute it 50/50 with water if she thinks it tastes strong. It may take a day or two to work. Keep giving her some every day until it clears up. If she likes fresh fruit, that helps a lot. Avoid apples, bananas, and grapes since those can be constipating. Plums, pears, peaches (all the "P" fruits - pp mentioned pineapple) and melons are good for constipation. Offer it at every meal. Good luck!

I agree that at her age you are definitely in need of a few oz..not a tsp... I might try 2 oz of undiluted...or mix it in with some OJ and water if she won't take it... but I think you have to wait a bit to see how things go...the extra juice can make things acidic and rashy down there... Raisins work well here...and also a good can of black bean soup.. Soupa De Negra...by Goya...mixed with a bit of rice can help keep the kids very regular! Albeit a bit more gassy. [IMG]

You can also do apple, pear, or grape juice instead of prune if she doesn't like it. Mine like it just fine, but my pedi actually recommends pear juice and it's what we always use. I tend to just give 4 oz. or so at a time diluted w/ water (since extra water also helps soften and move things along...) instead of milk at one or two of their meals over a couple of days and that tends to get things worked out. Hope this helps!

With my boys, they only need a small amount mixed in with some water & it always did the trick. A few ounces should do. My only problem was what to do with the left over juice.

Our ped told us to mix prune and apple juice. I just did a 1/2 and 1/2 mix in their regular sippy cups...I think they were 7oz. The kids got that combo every morning with breakfast from about 15 months till they turned 3.
