How much of each do I need to potty train?

I have B/G twins. Rose has been going on the potty but Dan is usually a month behind her on whatever they do. I found a potty that comes up real high in the front for a boy and is not a removable piece.

How many stand alone potties did you use? Do I need 1 or 2?

Will I need a ring seat for the big toilet bowls in the house too then?

Any advice on what I should get would be appreciated!

I had a stand alone potty that could be used on its own or came apart to be a ring seat for the toilet and the bottom became a step stool. I also had just a ring seat that fit onto the toilet. I generally kept them both in the same bathroom and one girl would use the stand alone and the other the big toilet (if they happened to need to go at the same time). The thing that was great about the stand alone was that I took it with us on a long driving vacation and we were able to pull over and let the girl go to the bathroom if they were unable to wait until we could make it to a rest stop or other public bathroom.

I only had the rings. I had one for their bathroom, and one for the powder room downstairs.

None of my kids ever peed/pooped in the stand alone potties (I had one for each of them). We ended up just doing rings for the two bathrooms the kids would use. Also be sure to get foot stools for the bathrooms with rings....makes life easier.

I bought a fold up ring thinking we would use it while out but I always ended up just holding the kids.

We had two but, they were hardly used. I think it freaked them out a little. They liked the rings better and very quickly wanted to stand up like daddy. Not an issue you should have with dd but something to think about. My two also did not like the little part that stuck up to block the pee. So, they quickly learned how to "tuck"

We had two standalone potties (actually we had three, because we got a hand-me-down, but we only used two) and one toilet ring. The kids never used the toilet ring at first, but when they got bigger, they liked it. Then we could get rid of one of the little potties (freeing up some floor space in the bathroom) -- if they have to go at the same time, one uses the little potty and the other uses the ring.

We actually still have the little potty and the ring. Even though they can both use a regular toilet with no ring by this point, they seem to find the little seats more comfy, and it's no skin off my back either way.

We have one stand alone and one ring.. the stand alone normally stays downstairs in the kitchen, and the ring in the bathroom upstairs (we only have the one bathroom).
One thing I wanted to note is that our stand alone has the "boy" insert (with the high front) but our guys hated it, it made the seat smaller/less like a real toilet/ more uncomfortable for the, and it sometimes made their pee splash out of the potty (even though it's supposed to prevent it), so I removed it and they can easily "tuck" down into the potty.

i found some great cheap stand alone one piece pottys for $3.99 at Ikea...i bought two and let them pick out the color and then let them put stickers of their choosing on them. that became 'their' potty. i had both in the living room for a while..wehre they played the most. we also found rings for $5 and have one for each toilet. i use the one piece potty in the car too...so they go potty in it when we are at a playground or whatever. they seem to like the choice of which potty to use.

We had two seat potties and one ring. I left one seat in the van b/c one of my girls refused to use a public potty. Allison refused to use the potty ring, so she used the little potty (as she called it) and Sarah always used the potty ring. Eventually I used rewards to wean Allison from the little potty to using only the ring and they weaned themselves from the ring b/c they were too big to use it (so they said).

I had one "little toilet" as they called it and that is all. I got stools for the other toilets,on in each bathroom. We only used the little on the first couple of weeks whenI didn't want them to have to wait to go while the other one went. I never even used the rings. I think the more things you used the more germs spread. My kids do just fine on the big toilets and then it is never an issue when at other houses or in public. I started potty training at barely 2 and my kids only weighted 24/25 lbs each.

We went straight to the regular toilet when potty training. They caught on very quickly. I think my daughter only fell in once!

I have 2 boys (now 4.5), but we got something very similar to this at Home Depot.

It was around $40 and we got one for downstairs and upstairs. My boys love them -- they both like to sit much to my dismay -- and my husband said one of the best $40 we spent.

And I had 2 of these -- great for boys (especially) and girls too. http://www.amazon.com/Fisher-Price-Precious-Planet-Froggy-Friend/dp/B001GQ2RW6 . I still have one in the back of the van.
