I am giving them 5 bottles of milk a day. Is this too much? should I be introducing more juice? Right now I am up to almost 6 gallons of milk a week!!!!!!

Also, should I be giving them snacks between meals? I feel so lost!

I think it is supposed to be about 16-24 oz per day. Ours are getting only 2 bottles (9oz in each). We give them other sources of calcium throughout the day.

As for snacks, I don't think you HAVE TO give them some but I know our girls want them on most days. Here is our schedule if it helps:

    6:30am - 9oz bottle
    8:30am - breakfast
    11:00am - snack
    12:30pm - lunch
    3:00pm - snack
    5:00pm - dinner
    6:30pm - 9oz bottle then bed

My girls don't get juice. We give them water, which they love, at every snack & meal.

My ped told us 16-20 oz of dairy total...so, add the cheese, yogurt and things to the total. I give two bottles still  - One in the morning (6 oz) and one at night (7 oz) Then cheese and other dairy in the day somewhere.

We are doing about 20oz. of milk/day in sippie cups and ped. said that is fine. It seems like mine are eating all the time. They eat 3 really good meals, plus 2-3 snacks a day.

I don't measure how much they drink. If they need it I trust they will drink it. I offer milk in cups at all meals and most snacks. I also offer water in cups. Sometimes they drink the water and sometimes they drink the milk. They also love to eat beans which are high in calcium. If I had to guess I'd say they are drinking approx 2 cups of milk a day, but I don't know for sure.

Mine got constipated when I switched to milk since I gave them the same amount as I had given them formula. I cut down the milk to the recommended 16 oz a day and that was perfect for them.

In order to get them to drink something else, I introduced juice at that point and gave them 1/2 juice, 1/2 water. Over the course of a few weeks I continually increased the amount of water to juice in the sippy until they were just drinking straight water.

Definitely no more than 20 oz, and usually only around 16 oz. My ped said no more than 20, and they don't want / need more than 20 anyway.

I agree with pp, between 16-20oz of milk is enough. You don't have to give them juice, and if you give them too much milk it could fill their little belly up and they won't eat as much. Good luck! :)

My ped told me they only need 15oz a day especially if they are getting cheese and dairy other ways. I have cut mine down to three 8 oz. bottles a day and that works for us. They get one when they wake up, before bed and in the afternoon.

We were told no more than 16 oz. of milk a day at our 12 month appt.
