HOw much milk should they be drinking at 21 months? how much water? Every meal ends with taking away their plate for throwing food. they also will spit their milk/water out. I pretty much give them access to milk or water all day as desired. I actually have no idea how much they are drinking, I never measure it, just keep filling up the sippies as they get low. Also - they share sippies, so how do I know how much each girl is actually getting?

I only give milk at meal times and they each have a designated color sippy for that day so I can keep track. I think it's recommended that they get around 16oz of milk/dairy a day but I'm not sure on the upper limit or if that is the upper limit. Mine probably drink close to 16oz and then have cheese, yogurt, etc on top of that. If they drink their full sippy with dinner and want more to drink I usually give water...especially if they've drank milk really well during the rest of the day.

Mine get water all day, and I don't monitor how much...just when it gets low I refill. It's water and their diapers are wet so I don't worry about the amount.

i have separate sippy's for mine and i give them at every meal of water with 1 oz. of juice so they drink it all up. also while they are playing i will give them sippy's they drink some and when they play again i take it away but i offer it all the time to them. they drinka sippy's 5oz's with 3 meals and 1-2 more throughout the day including snack time. so 25 ozs of water. then milk is 6 ozs. when wake up, 1 at naptime and 1 at bedtime 9 oz. each doc told me 16 ozs he is happy for milk.

if you really want to know how much they are getting then i would give them their own sippy. i also sometimes sit them down in their chair and have them drink. i don't want them walking around with their sippy's as they try to drink while walking. or they sit on the floor with me for a minute and have a quick drink. they have gotten good so when they dont want more they give me back the cup and go play. sometimes they do switch cups though but i get an idea of how much they drink.

We were told the same thing by the pedi.

We have designated cups for each girl otherwise I have one that would drink both of the cups dry.

We offer milk at meal times and snack time. Otherwise, they mostly get water.

Are your girls sitting at the table yet for meal times? I noticed a HUGE decrease in throwing food/sippies once we moved the girls up.

my girls get milk in the morning and in the evening after the supper meal. The rest of the day they have access to water and juice.

We do a cup of milk in the morning before naptime & one in the evening before bedtime. Those are times when they are expected to sit with me or on the sofa & drink their milk, no running around or playing. Sort of quiet time before bed. The rest of the time they get water with the occasional cup of juice. I found if I gave them milk with their meals, they didn't eat very much.

I give milk with breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Water mid morning and with the afternoon snack or occasional diluted juice. I used to be compulsive about measuring out how much milk but it has leveled off now, so I dont know down to the ounce but I do know about how much they should be getting at each meal to keep track in my head, KWIM?

Wow, how are you guys keeping your kids from drinking from the other child's sippy cup?

I wondered the same thing. I don't even attempt to keep them from switching cups, if I did I would be spending all my time saying "no, no". :bow2: to those of you who have managed it!

DH feeds them breakfast and let them sit in chairs, but that brings it's own problems - keep standing up in their chairs, switching places - one will want more of one thing the other has, it's kind of cute but I don't want them doing it- and then running in to play without getting hands/mouth wiped. I make them sit in their highchairs, and yes, definatly more throwing on the floor then.

If you have designated cups, do they only get those at the table? I think that is the only way I could keep them seperate.
