My boys are almost 4 weeks and they seem to be going through a growth spurt...at least thats what everyone else thinks... They are eating sooo much!! Up until about 3 days ago, they would eat about 2 1/2- 3 ounces per feeding, now they are eating at least 4, Austin just ate 6!! I have tried everything to keep them from eating after their 4th ounce, but that is the only thing that makes them happy. They continuously root until they get more bottle!
Are they eating too much?? I just don't want to make them sick with it! Oh and they hardly ever spiit up after they eat.
    Am I doing something wrong??

    Thanks for any advice

My babies are big eaters too, even as newborns. No wonder I couldn't keep up with their demand for breast milk when I was trying to nurse - when I switched to bottles they were taking up to 5 oz at a time at a month old! And that was every three hours...minimum. The good news is that they levelled off after a while. We've been doing 32 oz. a day for quite a while now. When they got up to 40 oz. I started to think about adding solids, and did so at about 5 months. My babies were 6 lbs 2 oz. and 6 lb 9 oz at birth and now at 7 months they're about 21 and 22 lbs. I think they would have been big babies if they were singletons and they've been making up for lost time. So long as you're feeding them because they're actually hungry (not just comfort feeding) then you don't have to worry.

Babies do like to suck, so rooting doesn't always mean they're still hungry. If you don't have an objection to pacifiers, they work wonders once the baby's had enough. Kind of like an after-dinner cigarette :p

They do like pacifiers, but they refuse them except for when they are going down for a nap... Sometimes, they take it after eating, but if they do they are sound asleep within minutes, so I'm certain its not just wanting to suck....
    thanks

How often do they eat? Would it help to feed them more frequently?

At that age, they often DO want to go back to sleep after eating, so it's very possible that they just want suck to go to sleep. :)

It does seem like alot to be giving them at that age. Cody was at the Dr when he was 2 months & she didn't want him eating anymore than 5 at a time. Some babies just like to suck.

I know my girls tend to root more when they need to burp.
