How much food do you give?

I've been giving only a tablespoon of rice cereal to each baby in the morning with water and about 1.5 oz of applesauce all mixed together. Is this enough? They still seem to want more after they are done. Also, I started giving sweet potato 2 days ago. About 1 oz each baby. Is this enough? Again, they are crying for more but I stop anyway because they just started solids. My sister told me that I'm not giving them enough. How much should I be giving 6 month olds? Thanks!!!

As long as they are still drinking their normal amount of formula...I have always fed mine until they seemed uninterested. I would give them more!

They nurse 7 times a day and haven't reduced the number of nursing sessions. I am monitoring that pretty closely as I know that breast-milk is more important than solids at this point.

I would definately go ahead and give them more if they seem to want it then! Duh...I didn't even think to ask if you were nursing...sorry!

I feed them till they are no longer interested, Some days we use half a jar of food some days the whole thing.

I let them tell me when they are done. I always breastfeed first so that means they will be satisfied with the bm before they get the solids. Some days they want to nurse right after as well.

If you nurse before hand and the number of nursing sessions doesn't drop below 6 per day then you can offer till they are full, they will definitly tell you when they have had enough (turn head, smack spoon away, etc).

I usually don't give them more than I prepare - right now I make 2 tbls spoons of grain plus 2-4 tablespoons of vegetable or fruit that I mix all together (for morning - I use yogurt instead of grain in the afternoon). They share this medly. They will *rarely* finish it. Sometimes they eat less than half - I just never know how much they'll eat.

I *usually* nurse them about an hour before they eat. Sometimes 1.5 hours. Sometimes I'll nurse them, then put them down for a nap, and do solids when they wake up. This is usually when they eat the most. Then I'll nurse them later. I've also started offering a little bit of water to help them wash it down.

Honestly I'm just winging it, but it seems to be working fine. Some days they'll chow down, other days they just take a few bites. They're still nursing about 5-7 times a day.
