How much does your 4 month old drink

    Hi all

My four month old boys have been drinking about 5 ounces of milk per feed. I am currently giving them EBM and supplementing with formula.
They have all of a sudden started waking up during their morning sleep which is usually 2 hours long, and their other day time sleeps, so I am thinking that maybe its time to increase the amount of milk that they are drinking. The only other thing that confuses me is the fact that they are spitting up some of their milk after some feeds, so I am thinking that they are too full to possibly want more, but this may not be the case? Can anyone offer any suggestions?
How much are your babies drinking?
    TIA.

    Hi Lina,

We were stuck at 4oz until 8 months or so, but my twins were a lot smaller eaters than my other kids. If they are spitting up, I probably wouldn't give them more. It could be something entirely different that is waking them, like the beginning of teething, or a developmental growth spurt(working on rolling?).

At that stage my babies naps were still all over the place, no rhyme or reason, so it sounds like you are doing pretty well!!

    Hi! Lina -

I've my ds and dd are almost at 4 mos (3mos 1 wk adjusted) and they are taking anywhere from 4-7 oz per feeding. Most of the daily feeds are 4 oz (sometimes the day care lets them off the hook at 2oz, they just aren't committing) and the 9p just before bed feed is usually the biggest (6 oz, 7 on a good day). I was wondering too if my lovelies were getting enough.

My Mom babysat a week or so ago and got them to eat 10oz each. Don't know how she did that without having them puke all over her :D

Since our twins are right around the same age - how are yours doing in regards to motor skills and verbally? Alex (born 4lb 3 oz) is a minute older than his sister, much more developed verbally (more sounds, mouth movements, razz-berries) but Allison (6lb 7oz) is much farther in the motor skills dept. She has the toes in her mouth already, is doing the shoulder dip to try and roll over, sometimes she makes it onto her side, but that's as far as she's gotten.

Do you find that there are developmental differences in your pair?

Good luck with the interrupted naps!

Hi, thanks so much for your replies. In reference to "Schoebdoo's" reply, mine are also (3 mos adjusted) and Terence being the older twin by 1 minute, is verbally more developed (he tries to sing like mummy a lot), although Oliver is more advanced with his movements and also has already started to roll over. Its sounds like they are neck & neck with your little bundles. Both are chewing at their hands and blowing raspberries!! It's such a cute time. How are you going with their sleeps? Daytime is up and down though they sleep well at night. (7.30 pm to 6.30 - 7 am)

We were probably about that for ounces, I would give them a half an ounce more and see if that helps, that's what I would always do and burp, burp, burp...

At this point - it seems that our twins are Northern and Southern Hemisphere versions of each other! Alex and Allie sleep 8:30/9p - 6/6:30a every night with one wake up every other night or so. Naps during the day are hit and miss - we let them sleep whenever they want. They seem to regulate themselves. Allie has her first cold, so she didn't sleep too well today.

How cool! it does sound like they are doing similar things.
Do you feed them at the same times, day and night? I have done this from the start and it has worked well. The day sleeps can be out, as one can wake before the other, so I end up waking the sleeping baby during feed times (which I don't really like doing) but its the only way that I can get anything done around the house. Fortunately they both sleep well at night and have yet to wake up, this has been happening for the last 4 weeks.
Poor Allie, I hope that she gets over her cold very soon!

Thomas is now taking 8.5oz. per feed and Elizabeth 7.5oz. They do this every feed. Last week we started doing cereal in a bowl (has been in bottles since 1month for Reflux) and both take about 4tbsp. per day.

I think my kiddos are just big eaters. They are also big pukers (reflux). I tried feeding them less and more often and it ticked Thomas off a whole lot and the puking was just as bad.

My guys are just about the same age as yours. Thomas is very close to rolling back to front, he babbles like crazy and makes raspberries. My daughter on the other hand, is very selective as to when she will babble, rolls to her side and is content there, pretty much sits up by herself and can stand at furniture for several minutes.

Both of them laugh like crazy.

I guess every baby is different. Funny how the boy is all verbal and the girl all physical. I know that will change in the coming months!
